dsmlink with no mods?

alright i wanted to know cause the first things im going to do is get gm MAS and gm intake pipe and i didnt want to half to but a MAST i would rather do dsmlink now and save the little money in the mean time. will it work it i just dont tune it at all then i plug in the link?
 
First, take a look at your ecu..Pull it out and open it up, 4 screws...There will be a chip at the bottom with an M on it..There are 28 pins on this chip..If You dont have eprom ecu, there will be no chip..

The chip has to be unsoldered out and a socket put in there..Then you either replace the stock chip, or add the dsmlink chip( or other keydriver chip) and your ready to party... Pm steve if you want him to do it for you..
 
Or if you are getting the V3 you can just pick the option to send your computer off to them and they can convert it for you.

I say go for it because it will allow you to get the most out of all future mods.
 
along these same lines, I, too, am looking into the DSMLink. Also, looked into the DS-Map tuning setup. Coming from a history of open-source style tuning, I'm trying to research the pros/cons between the two. Ultimately, I want to end up Speed Density, but not needed right away..
 
I bought a completely stock 91 eagle talon AWD and the first thing I did was get ECMlink V3. It was a great choice for mods for several reasons:

I started to learn about logging and reading data from my car. This was a way better option then to start to bolt on part for greater horsepower. Not only did I tune my car and learn about the ins and out, it was extremely helpful in planning my cars modifications. I was able to see the limits of tuning a stock car. Personally I think its even more important being able to read tuning results and understand them, then to just bolt on more aftermarket parts.

ECMlink v3 will not let you down, its a great purchase and definately worth getting. I like that you have decided to save up for this modification. There are so many times where I see people just buying parts because they are cheaper, suck as a new 500 dollar exhaust instead of saving 500 more for a new ecu with ECMlink chip, gm to mas ecu harness, etc.

I agree with everyone about going ahead and getting ECMLink...

Not only will you not have to worry about it in the future and play with SAFC's..

But you'll be able to tune after each small mod you do and always be able to see whats going on with your car with the logger

As far as gains, i doubt you'll notice any but you can get your car to run a bit smoother since they usually run a little rich from factory.

Link was one of my first mods as well, and I'm happy I did things in that order. You'll learn more, and realize the potential of each mod, it just makes sense.

When you place your order for the ECMlink from ECMtuning they will ask you what specifications to set it to. What sized injector, what MAS or MAF or if you are using a translator for the GM MAF. You can leave all the stock setting and use the ECMlink. The ECMlink will have the ability to change the setting once you install it and have it linked up to a laptop.

Since you said you want to use a GM MAF, you can specify that when you order. I also suggest the GM MAF harness to the stock MAS plug in. I know they make them for the 1g and 2g mas.

oh yea I forgot, do you know if you have a EPROM ECU for your car? Check that out before you go and order ECMlink. You might need to find a ECU to go along with your ECMtuning. Or you can send in you ECU for a EPROM conversion.
