I am about to pull he trigger on AEM stand one in a 1G AWD.

A few questions;

1. Is it truly a "plug and play"?
2. Can the ECM files be dumped into a data file and dumped into AEM?
3. Has anyone had issues with the AEM unit? I am trying to get away from counting on 20+ year old circuit boards.
 
1. It is "plug and play" from the standpoint that you don't need to do any custom wiring. But it will not be "plug and play" from perspective that you will be able to plug it in and fire the car right up (such as with ECMlink). It will take a fair amount of configuration to be able to get the car to start and idle.

2. No, not possible. You'll need to start over as the two systems don't use the same types of files.

3. Are you experiencing issues with the factory ECU? Or are there features that you're looking for that aren't available in the factory unit? People are doing great things with it and ECMlink.

Yeah, I have learned to like the DSMlink. I have run Accel DFI and other systems and this one is very user friendly. Like most, I seem to have nothing but problems with the OE boards/Caps/etc and want to eliminate old stuff.

I have a DFI Gen 7 sitting around and was debating using it, but its a ton of wiring and starting over. I am pretty good with Accel systems, so I figured AEM would be pretty straight forward.
 
If going speed density immediately, there is some wiring to be done. If starting with MAF, There are ballpark setups available for DL on the AEM forums. Ive been up and running pretty close in all areas within 45 minutes, starting with nothing.

While they are different, I imagine you could transfer values over manually, say with timing and such.

I have had a AEM board Fry on me before, a coil driver failed, and i believe it was 200$ to have AEM replace the entire board. My thought was that it was a fluke, not endemic.
 
^You do know that there are 2 extra coil drivers and 4 extra injector drivers and they are all fully configurable.

I just had to swap some drivers around myself. The series 2 ems is supposed to be a lot more durable than series 1 which was designed over a decade ago.

Also, for any users out there, try not to use any High Side outputs if you can. They are more likely to heat some circuits up and cause damage.
 
I know that now, this was years ago, soon after i bought it. Still speaks to the reliability of the board. Thanks for letting everyone else know though.
 
I have a series 2. It is plug and play as long as you know what all needs to be done before startup. To me, it is pretty darn headache free. Just know how to search and make small adjustments.

They have presets for all kind of different sensors to get the car up and running. Then they are all adjustable if the readings aren't spot on (they sometimes aren't).
