I'm new to dsmtuners and dsmlink. I'm on the path of geting a dsmlink for my 2g. I did some reading on dsmlink and read that if the battery and ecu is disconnected, the ecu settings and datas will be lost and everyting will be set back to default. The question is, I dont know anything about tuning dsmlink and I'm thinking of taking it to a shop for a dyno tune. What if after tuning the car the battery is disconnect or lose power to the ecu and everything is set back to default, is there a way to retrieve the settings and data or do I have to retune everything again?

Yep there's a way. Once you have the car dyno tuned. Do a 3rd gear log from 2500rpm to redline, and save it. When you view the log it will show you what your settings were during the run. Can you open .dat files? If so i'll post a log, and you can see what i mean. If you dont have it go to ecmtuning, and download it for free. That way you will be able to view files, and get the swing of things before you ever purchase it:thumb:

That will tell you how to make a backup of your ECU setting so that if your battery is disconnected, you can just reload that .ecu file and copy all of the settings back. (Just ignore the part about going to another computer. You would just do that process on the same computer.)

Do the tuning yourself though. You'll learn a lot about how your car runs as well as how to use the software. It is very user friendly and there's a bunch of us here and on the link forums that are more than willing to help.

Many people said DSMlink is pretty esay to tune, but for someone like me, who dont know anything about tuning, Should I go head and spend couples hundred bucks for someone who knows what he's doing and be safe, or try reading lots of info. and tune it myself and take chances.

If you want to learn about your car, how it works, and how it runs, tune it your self. It's not hard at all, just follow the basic DSMlink tuning guide and read the Users Manual and you will be good to go!!

5months ago i didnt know the first thing about tuning. I tuned my car with the help of dsmtuners, and my dsmlink logs show anywhere from 360-400hp. It runs great:thumb:

Do it yourself as the above 2 people have. Terry started tuning with us, posted logs, and we gave advice.

Here's a bunch of sites to get you started:
start [ECMTuning - wiki]
quickieafsetup [ECMTuning - wiki]
howfueltableajustmentsareapplied [ECMTuning - wiki]
http://www.dsmlink.com/DSMLinkV2.5 User's Guide.pdf
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-tuning-ecu/91676-how-street-tune-using-dsmlink.html
http://jeffgst.com/

And just remember to make small adjustments, this way you don't harm anything. But do some reading, start airflow tuning (using the guide on JeffGST's page, and post up logs and we'll help).

As long as you have a log saved on your computer, you can click on the tab that says "copy to ecu" and that will reload the settings from that log. It's pretty easy.

As far as tuning goes, once you have DSMlink, be sure to register for the forum.
There is a huge wealth of information that has already been posted along with quite a few very knowledgeable people who will be able to answer just about any question.

I'm getting DSMlink next month, at first I was thinking about tuning myself, because I have been reading people's forums and the user's guide from ECMtuning. Try to get myself prepare before I get DSMlink. I also thinking about taking to a shop for tuning, because I don't want to do any harm to the motor. After hearing from you guys that its easy and I can learn and tune it myself, Im leaning toward tuning the car myself.

You won't do any harm to the motor if you read and take it slow. Plus, by doing it yourself, you'll save a bunch of money that you can use to buy more go-fast parts! :thumb:

I say go get it tuned right an then go from there tune as you upgrade it. I fried my engine tunning it wrong an bent 2 valves. Unless you got someone there experienced in tunning with DSMLink there thats willing to help you. i know 3 people here that live by me that can tune it, but no one wanted to get off there ass to help anyone but there selves. Another thing DSMLink has alot of assholes on it from my experience. If you don't write something correctly in spelling an punctuation they will rag you every time you write something an will never answer your questions....

I'll try to tune the car myself once I got DSMlink and will see how it goes from there. If seem like I can't handle it than the car will be going to a shop to tune.

Thankyou for all the info. and inputs guys. I'll start of slow and go from there.

Man you are a bag of useless knowledge that couldn't use spell check if your life depended on it. I see your over here bad mouthing link and giving some of your GREAT insightROFL, I haven't seen a guy get told off more then this one on link and there some pretty easy going guy's. But when you fill the pages with useless info over and over it starts to piss people off.
I think your the ***hole that should stay off link, make alot of people happier.ROFL

fatherbubble has been posting alot of mis-information. Honestly I dont know how you bend valves from a bad tune. Melting pistons or cracking ring lands, yes, but bending valves? Theres no way you can kill a motor with DSMlink, its got such a nice logging feature you'd have to be a total moron to mess up.

"OMGZ!! WHAT DOES KNOCK RETARD MEAN!! GO LEANER!!!! MOOAAR TIMING!!EErGLE"

Yes the JMFAB smim are cheaply made becuase the use a million dollar CNC machine and did testing a research. Also guys have proven they work over and over again. Total cheap chinabay stuff. If you thought that about someone as reputable and makes quality products, Apparently you have no idea what your talking about. POST hard data, test numbers to support your opinion, otherwise your opinion is totally useless.

**JUST TO CLARIFY**Im not bashing on JMFabs work, I actually love it and its a quality piece of fabrication art. I was just refereing to another post by fatherbubble when he was saying it was crap (more so just mocking him)

Great...Now I'm an asshole:thumb:

DSMlink is unquestionably the "friendliest" DSM forum on the net. Do not confuse the fact that DSMlink forum members have higher standards for posts than what you are accustomed to as hostility.
By using proper grammar and spelling, you're helping yourself.
