Dsmlink connection problems?

I have an eee pc and when I plug in my car to it and try to connect with dsmlink it says it can't find a connection or something with the comport. I tried installing the driver using the files on dsmlinks cd. I believe it said cdmi something. It seemed to install but still no connection. Is my CPU bad? What's up with it?

You are using a USB-COM adapter right? You need the driver for the adapter if this is what you are doing.

oh.... well the cord that came with dsmlink v3 is a usb end... what exactly is a com then.... im just trying to go by the directions on the disk

Yes, I use Windows 7 on a 5 year old HP laptop to tune.
I had a connection problem at first, but after I redownloaded the driver and the latest v3 application, it works just fine.

if you log on to link, go to there wiki section, click on connection problems it will walk you though it.

When I go to device manager on my computer there is no port treemto expand. I tried installing a port hardware but after I did there is a little yellow exclamation point on the port that I installed but the tree was there then.... I don't know why but it seems my CPU doesn't have the ports installed

Well actually now that I think about it i had my external hard drive connected to it by USB and it worked fine

had a similar problem check your pc make sure its has windows and also check to see if there are any lose grounds around
