I recently bought a pocketlogger from a member here but I am waiting for the hotsync cable to come in, so I took the OBDII cable from that and used it on my Palm IIIx and downloaded OBDGauge. Now, when I hook it up to the OBD port, turn on the Palm and run the program, it does not connect with the ECU. It just says "initializing" at the top, and if I wait too long, the Palm shuts off. I played around with the settings and can't seem to connect with the ECU. Any tips/ideas to help me out? I'm getting really frustrated and I just installed a 14B turbo and I need to see what is going on.

I had the similar problem and it turns out to be a wiring problem, with the following solution it works fine for me:
I used an ELM compatible OBD2 to serial adapter I previously used with my notebook and a palm hotsync cable to connect my Palm IIIc.
To connect both a had to use a null-modem adapter, which also had to be a gender changer between the OBD2/serial adapter and the palm hotsync cable and it works.

I don't really understand which palm cable you are using if you are still waiting for your hotsync cable, but if you use an OBD2/serial adapter for notebooks you could have a null-modem problem too.
I guess, you already tried both OBDGauge interface settings (ELM/Multiplex)?

Yea, I tried messing with the settings on OBDGauge, nothing happened. I got pissed off and uploaded my pocketlogger software and BINGO! it works. No need for the null modem adapter, so that is going on ebay. I don't know what is wrong with OBDGauge, but most people I talk to say it does not work for them.

I first made the mistake to mirrored the upper pin row of my null-modem adapter, but now it works and the PC data viewer is not very comfortable but does its job.
The only problem I got is the low sample rate. No matter what I configured as ELM read timeout I only have about 3.5 samples per second with my Palm IIIc.
Enough for the temperature sensors etc, but a little low for the timing advance/RPM/intake air flow.

How much samples per second you have with the pocketlogger software?
