Ive spent the last 7 years building and driving Honda's. I got out of the honda scene (too many punk kids and winey babies) and wanted to do something a little different so I went out and bought a 97 GSX. I already have a few things done to the car, ACT Extreme clutch, HKS turbo timer and a custom exhaut with Apex N1 muffler. Im looking to build a V8 killer to blow some of the local domestics out of the water.

I have several Q's so ill just go ahead and list them all out.

1. What is involved in converting to a full 1g longblock? Any new mounts, wiring? new ECU? Basicly, I need to find out everything involved???

The reason I ask is... I have a good line on a 1g motor that I can snatch up and use to build. I plan on using wiseco pistons, eagle rods, clevite bearings, new water/oil pumps, ported head, SI valves, HKS cams, Crower valvetrain, BR Intake manifold and a ported 1g TB.

2. Are there any good DSM shops/engine builders in the LA/San Diego area?

3. Are there any good sources (wrecking yards, etc) in So'cal for used motors, blocks/heads?

I plan to order an RNR SC61 kit, race FMIC, 3 inch DP and a EPSI Fuel Management Kit w/780's in the next couple of days. Im kind of wiery about running this on the stock motor though.

4. With tuning, can the stock 61,xxx mile motor hold 15-17 PSI from the SC61 daily?

Im going to take my time and browse through this site for now. Ive been working on and building nothing but Hondas and honda motors for so long it kinda feels like Im starting over. Eh, oh well... thats what makes it fun.

TIA for answering all my newbie Q's

Mods: If this is in the worng forum then please move this thread to the apropriate form.

well, i can help you with a couple things. As for the 1g longblock in a 2g, it is actually pretty simple to do. You dont need a different ECU or anything. You have to modify one of your 2g motormounts. Couple other minor things Check out www.magnusmotorsports.com check out their tech articles. Very very good source of info. I am putting a built 6 bolt and 1g head etc. into my 95 gsx. I dont know about the So/cal stuff, as i am from nebraska :D . And i think the 7 bolt motor is good for maybe around 400 hp( someone can correct me if i am wrong), i am sure it could hold more if your gettin a new engine anyways. And with good tuning the SC61 will be putting out that or more. Sorry, im not more help,

here's a very big list

I'm not familiar with the SC61, but a properly tuned stock motor has been proved to support 400HP+.

I'm not try to plug RRE, but all the questions you asked seem to direct to them.

omfg no no0bie questions in the advanced extreme section.

If thats all you want to run, don't even bother looking in the direction of a sc61.

Welcome to the wonderful world of DSM's. Since you have a ton of newbie questions, I am moving this to the Newbie Question forum instead of the Extreme Tuning forum. Many of your questions have been answered or are easily found a few places.

Make sure you read www.vfaq.com. It's a resource everyone should read.....twice.

Thats the information on a 1g 6bolt swap. If you are just planning on low boost I really wouldn't consider such a large turbo. Have you looked at the 50trims and FPGreen as far as another recommendation for a turbo setup?

In socal you got rre... Thats basically almost all you need.
OMG

WoW! From a Honda to a SC61 650hp turbo? You're going all out huh? You got good advice^^ get supporting mods first, "especially fuel" and let us know how it goes. Lata.

RRE is one of the single biggest reasons i wish i lived in socal! among many others, RRE is awsome!:thumb:
