...i was at this auto auction acouple months back and saw a 90-91 white awd talon 5spd with around 50k on it. It was beautiful. Blew some smoke but it went for 1800.

tranny went
then @ 185,000 the 420A went!

now i have to start all over at zero (since i bought both from the dealer)

A 1G with 4 miles is the most wonderful thing I have ever heard. I want it BAD. Don't we all?
 
How many miles is too many, on a 1g tsi awd? Im looking into getting one, and i found what seems to be a super clean, stock, beautiful car. Owner says its been adult owned its whole life, and that many new parts have been put on, and been well maintained.

Problem is, the car has 146,000 miles on it.

Would you pass that up? for abour $3000 or so?

Just curious as to if at that mileage, an engine rebuild or turbo replacement would be needed.

mine has 143 on stock turbo and still runs like a champ. I'm lookin to get around 3k when I sell it after winter...
 
53k all Original Miles on my 1991 GSX. I'm the second owner, with the first being an old man who raced it at Willow Springs and garaged it with a car cover. :D

what should i expect to pay for a 91-92 AWD 1g with high mileage? Around 2000-3500?

Have you drove the car? Also you can call your bank or look up the blue book value on the car. 3k seems like a lot for a 1gen with 146k on it. Tell him you would like to do a compression test on it...am not sure off hand with the compression of a new 4g63...am just throwing you a number AROUND 175 psi I know on Cyl. #2 compression is lower in 2gen knock sensor is there try to talk him about to $2500
 
Well, i kbb'ed it.

In mint condition, or 'excellent' as kbb.com calls it, its worth 2170. In just 'good' condition, its worth 1870.

Is there any super high demand i should know about? I know with the Integra GS-R i'm trying to sell now, you can normally add quite a bit to the book value, since they are pretty rare to find, especially with a clean title.

I'd almost feel embarrassed to offer him book value. Thats like, barely anything at all.

Now im starting to think 2500 is a little high :D

Any other input?

think about it like this.. its anywhere from 10-14 model years old, has a 146k miles on it and is a high performance engine. people dont buy these cars to go easy on em. i tend to look at an engine as having a reliable life of about 100k miles and anything past that is on borrowed time, especially on a boosted engine. to me, $1.5-2k is reasonable. and btw, a car that old almost always falls under the poor to fair condition.
 
Hmm, Well i bought my 1g tsi awd with like 170k, but it was only 700$, and it had a rebuilt or new or something motor and tranny, and it still runs GREAT... and its winter now and its still goin

the car is worth as much as it is to you. how clean is the interior? also do a compression test like some above said. check for shaft play in the turbo too. see if they kept records of whats been done to the car. also is it a 5 speed or auto? if its an automatic try talking him down even more because it has a smaller turbo and smaller fuel injectors and i believe different cams as well.

I havent gotten a chance to see it in person, but from the dozen pictures i saw, it looks pretty crisp and clean. Looks mint to me.

High mileage sucks though.

And whats with these jackasses with 1g turbo awd's asking 8000 for their car? theyve got 90,000 miles on it, and its in decent condition.

Theres one guy by my house who has a stock 92 talon turbo awd. 92,000 miles, and is asking $4900. Thats kind of high, i think. any reason why he'd be asking that high?

To me the highest anyone should pay for a 1g turbo awd is something like 4500, if its MINT and has relatively low miles (75,000 or so) for the year. Otherwise, they should be under 3000 or so. market value baffles me sometimes OMG :confused:
 
I would pay 3 for one in great shape, I paid three for mine and it had a few mods done to it, perfect interior, and a new head and tranny. I would do a compression test though, 175 is way high. Factory is 163 and if its got and actual 146k on it, I would hope to be 140 or a little higher, it will still run perfectly fine like that as long as there is not more than a 12 psi difference between the 4. Also the test must be done warm. factory service limit is 123. Just a little help.

ive bought 2 1gs in my life,

1991 plymouth laser rs-turbo with 131,000 miles. Automatic with the special little turbo ridgy side skirts that i havent ever seen. fully loaded, from a dealer for $1300

and now i have my 1990 plymouth laser rs-turbo with 133k loaded minus flip up roof, no skirts, no alloy wheels, 5 spd, from a person with 1 owner for 1300$.

maybe its just cuase it was the laser so it was cheap? but hell i would never pay more then 1500 for a 1g unless it had under 100k miles...
 
Well, i went ahead and bought a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, for $3500

Has 131,000 miles on it.

New super 16G turbo
New 555 cc injectors
Walbro fuel pump
all maintainence...timing belt, water pump, plugs done
new breaks/calipers/pads all around
a bunch of other stuff. a whole dang list. It was owned by a mechanic that's shoppe is over by my house. oddly enough, this is the shoppe ive had all 4 of my cars worked on over the years. So the car mustve been treated nicely.

the exterior is a little rough, with a little rust here and there. faded paint. Nothing the $800 Maaco special wont fix :D

Interior is 7/10, needs to be shampoo'd all around.

I guess overall, i paid fairly for the car. I never realized how hard it is to even find a 1g AWD DSM. Man, its tough sometimes! Almost as hard as it was to find my 300zx.

But, im happy now. I just need a new clutch, which will probably be an ACT 2100, and i need a new radiator.

oh i didnt read that it was modded, i thoughtu said it was stock. the big 16g could of cost him 500-800 alone.
