My transmisson has been acting up latley . Today I was going to the gym and just as I pulled in I had the car in 1st gear and it revved to about 2k and then finally caught.

After I got done working out, I was driving around the parking lot trying to figure out what was going on, the car felt like it wasn't catching and then finally was after it felt like it, at about 2k rpm and it would just slam the hell out of itself. As if there was no in between it was either in or out.

As I was doing this it finally had one great slam and the car died. The clutch wouldn't even come out even in neutral, pushing the pedal in whatever, it wouldn't come out but I could push the car, wont turn over just clicks.

I looked under the car and the transmission fluid is everywhere, its not red AT ALL, its all silver, metallic. It doesn't smell like tranny fluid either.

Ideas on what Im looking at here?

1993 1.8 Eclipse
Just about 100k miles
Never changed the clutch or fluid.
TBH, Ive had it since I was 16 and its taken a beating, im 20 now.

I will do that, I can't right now as I had to leave the car at the gym. Lets say thats what is wrong, am I looking at a new transmission? Any ideas on cost?

I would say local junkyard, I think trannies around here are like 50 bucks.

Well for sarters the manual transmission fluid is not red on those cars it goes in clear and come out brow-black depending on how bad it is. You never changed the fluid thats a big mistake as you have now found out.

Your going to have to find out where the fluid came from. Most likely if it is trans fluid you will need a new transmission. You should put in a new clutch, clutch fork and ball while you have it out.

Thanks for the response. The fluid looked like it was coming from an area where the motor and transmisson meet. Its dark so I didnt get a good look and I dont know if it was coming out of a gasket or what but I do know it was coming out if the tranny near the engine block
