interestingly enough i've read the other threads for the most part and I've come to this . Well my drivers side headlight is turning almost a light yellowish color ( not the bulb ) I figured ya know ill try to clean the outside not it didnt seem to do much anyone have any suggestions ?

The way my brother restores them is with a light Wet Sand (2000 grid I think it is) then a buff, that gets rid of the yellow and any light scratches the light might have as well

This is of course that you are talking about the Headlamp itself

They sell different headlight restore kits that should clear the headlight up for you. Though their not all created equal. I've used the permatex one & its not so good. Probably alright if your headlight was really bad to start with but not an ideal finish IMO. You want one with a buffing pad, such as the 3M one. Have heard lots of good reviews on it. If you don't want to buy a kit (though their not expensive, like $20), you can buy all the individual components required (but if you don't already have some of them, the kit will probably be cheeper in the long run). You'll need different grits of sandpaper for wet sanding, buffing wheel & some scratch remover compound. If you google search the web (or search this site) you should come up with lots of step by step methods.

I used the 3m kit daren P is talking about and I couldn't be happier. Removed the yellowing plastic and some scratches. It leaves a nice, smooth finish.

I can vouch for the Harbor Freight kit that's $10. I used it this weekend on my parent's van and it got rid of all of the yellow. It's got 2 fine grit discs, a sponge-like buffer, some liquid which I'm assuming is scratch remover, and a drill adapter. You just use the discs 3 minutes on each light while misting it with water, then 3 minutes afterwards with the anti-scratch cream. They turned out pretty good for the price! I wish I would have taken before and after pictures now!

well i googled around and found out that mother chrome polish works apparently and I went and bought some and used it and it made my headlight like new

1. wet sand (1500 - 2000 grit) and buff
2. Mother's plastic polish
3. tooth paste w/ baking power + lots of elbow grease (last resort)

To clean the inside, oven bake the lamps and take it apart to buff both sides. Pain in the ass.
