I bought a cheap DSM and am trying to get it running...I was putting in new exhaust manifold studs and realized they were previously drilled and someone did a horrible job on it...Only a couple of the new studs go in, so I am wanting to drill and tap new holes...I just wanted some advice/tips before I got started...and also where is a good place to look for bigger studs?...Thanks, Dustin

so you want new studs for the exhaust manifold? the thing with something that gets that hot, you need a little bit of play around the stud so that when it gets up to operating temp, you dont shear off all the studs.. i dont know if ssstuds.com sells exhaust manifold studs or not...

by the way, i was talking about thermal expansion of the exhaust manifold, so if you get bigger studs, you won't want manifold holes to be tight around the studs.. you may need to re drill the manifold itself, don't do it until a wiseman or someone else with the same situation in the past tells you too.. it just a rule that i know from previous reading of books and whatnot, not sure if it applies to our cars, so dont go start drilling holes all over.. i did look at ssstuds and they do sell new exhaust manifold studs..

I had a similar problem a while back and ended up drilling/tapping for some 10mm studs instead of the 8mm's, you will have to dremill your exhaust mainifold holes a little, to make room for the bigger studs, I bought the 100mm studs from a local bolt&tool shop, I am sure you can get some from an auto parts store as well, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!
You have no room for mistakes, as I learned on mine. You can crank the 10mm's down a lot harder that the 8's, just be real carefull, they are easy to strip out when tightening down.
