What kind of dremel do you guys have? Does anyone know where I can get a decent set for less than 80 bucks?

Should I just go with an actual dremel or are the "knock-off"s worth their bit?

Dremels are GREAT at what they're good at, but keep in mind they're very small tools. They're one of the best things ever for things where you need a small cutoff wheel, but other than that and things like dashboard work, they're a bit small for most automotive applications.

I'd get one of the $20 sets from Harbor Freight or Kragen, and see if it's something you can use much. And then if you wind up using it a lot, go for the Dremel once you wear out the cheapie.

I just got the Craftsman Variable speed rotary tool. It came w/ a 40 piece kit and case for 50 bucks. It seems more powerful than the small dremels too.

i also have the craftsman and it works great.. just remember its no die grinder and should be used only for small jobs

I got my Dremel from walmart for less than 70 bucks. After I used it to port my turbo and and manifold, the variable speed must have broke. I only have one setting of speed now, HIGH. It's not meant for hard work, but it will get it done if you rest in between. I found out using the Reinforced Cutoff wheels worked better and faster at porting than the carbide bits.

I got a black and decker rtx for about $30. I can't remember. It works great.

I have a rotozip also. Has anyone tried porting anything with one?
