downpipe mounted wastegate

Where exactly on the downpipe does the flange ( wastegate flange ) need to be welded to? I see no room anywhere until after the O2 sensor. Is it still ok to flange it there? I'd like to just flange the O2, but I don't think I can weld to it with a regular mig welder and I'd like to not crack it trying.

Cast welding can't be done with a Mig. You may be able to gas weld it. It doesnt seem like you are looking for the highest quality. I wouldn't go hacking apart your down pipe. Just find someone to flange your mani.

I think he is refering to where the dump tube goes not the feed.

You can route it back in the exhaust anywhere you want really. After the O2 housing obviously is the best choice since its easier to weld it back into the exhaust pipe vs. cast iron.

what welder is needed to weld to cast? How much should a shop on average charge to flange the stock exhaust manifold?
