Basically, I need some exhaust guidance before I make my purchases. I am starting with the Evo3 O2 housing back. I have the Evo3 housing and a Ebay 3" downpipe. I'm not sure about using that downpipe because I've read many downpipes don't fit correctly with the Evo3 housing and stress the flex section too much. I know about the RRE downpipe option but it's expensive. I need a 3" high flow cat, tail pipe section and muffler (I'll have the local shop take care of making the tail pipe and welding the muffler on). So the question is, should I sell the current downpipe and buy the RRE pipe? What cat should I use? Should I have the shop do the flanges on the cat, or should I buy a cat with the flanges on (more expensive)? Any help would be appreciated.

Having run a 2.5" exhaust with an Evo3 O2 I can tell you that it will rub for sure. With our setup there was enough to muscle the DP on but the tcase was hitting the flex section and wearing it through. One option would be to just run what you have but take it to a fabricator/welder and have them re-angle it around the tcase. Or you could just run it and hope that it doesnt rub through, but that's not the best option.

I would say based on how much people are getting for second hand parts right now, you'll take such a big loss on the DP you already have that its better to just have it modified to fit. Any decent exhaust shop shoud be able to add a little material to get the angle proper for the evo3 0o2. BTW good choice on using a cat its the responsible thing to do and it wont cost you a ton of power if you get a performance model. I'd try Magnaflow as they have good performing cats for pretty cheap. At the same time you have your DP modified have them install your cat with flanges and tell them to give you the recession special discount on labor.

Do you know what 3" model cat will fit under the car for sure? I wasn't sure which one to order. Thanks for the idea on adding material to the current downpipe. I didn't even think about that. Any idea on cost to do something like that + installing the cat (I provide) and making the tail pipe And welding the muffler? I don't have much experience with this kind of stuff.

Sounds like I need to install the Evo3 O2 housing with the downpipe and get a feel for what will need to be done. Thanks for the ideas and input everyone!

Leave the downpipe get rid of the rest, less weight.

Yeah if you're racing, but its inappropriate to run your car like that on the street. Violates sound laws, it's obnoxiously loud for the other people you share space with, and it compromises air quality. You'll only loose 2% power and add 15lbs to the car, big woop. My full exhaust turbo back with cat weighs 28lbs, full 3"piping.

where did it rub? was it rubbing the lower a-arm? my busher was doing that also, what i did was move the exhaust mount for the muffler nearest the fuel tank, too the passenger front bolt that holds the fuel tank in and it worked great put the tip right where it needed to be and no longer hit the a-arm, the mount stretches a bit but so far so good.

I'm thinking that I will use a Dejon Powerhouse 3" Turbo back that includes the downpipe fitted for an Evo3 housing. I'll have a 3" cat installed by an exhaust shop, once I put the kit in. I should be ordering in two weeks. Anyone have any experience with the Dejon Exhaust setup?
