Hello everyone. My 90 tsi awd 5spd is having some electrical problems. I just purchased it couple weeks ago. Its BONE stock. The pop up headlights dont pop up, dome, courtesy, interior lights dont work, AC switch doesnt work, door locks and blower for heater doesnt work. Checked all fuses under dash and in engine bay. Also swapped relays. Radio works, headlights, dash lights, hazards, guages all work. Im getting NO power to the pop up motors, and no power to the heater blower, but can hear the high speed relay kicking on. I also have no power to the ANTI THEFT, HEATER, STOP, BACKup, and DOOR lock fuses in the fuse box under dash. Getting no power to that big fuse under drivers kick panel(door fuse?). The door switch that activates the dome light i also checked and looks clean. My windows work and power mirrors work. When i got the car it has this custom shield on the alternator, i was thinking maybe that shorted something out when installed, cause it looks pretty close to the connections on alternator. I was wondering if anybody has any special areas to check, grounds or connectors, or maybe a special relay/fuse. Thanks.

You said you checked all relay's, including "Tail" in the engine compartment? I dont like the idea of a sheild over the alternator...pull that puppy off there is no reason to have it on there.

Ive checked all fuses and relays I could find, not necessarly ALL of them. Ones ive checked are the ones on the left side of engine compartment where the 80amp alt fuse is, than i checked the general ones in the fuse box next to drivers kick panel where DTC port is, checked the door fuse(think its called) inside the drivers kickpanel, and than theres 3 relays under drivers dash area near the plastic heating ducts. There were also 2 relays above the general fuse box that i also checked. All of them check out OK. I removed the alternator shield right off the bat. I also removed the door panel just to see if the door locks were unplugged. Any other things i should check, please let me know. Thanks.

My 91 gsx had the same simptoms a few months ago, and it was caused by a blown fuse link that occured when I was messing around under the dash and a live wire zapped another wire. I don't know how to fix this myself but a local shop figured out the problem and had it fixed within an hour and cost me $50. As I said I had all of the same issues that you stated so hopefully this
will help you out.

When I was wiring something under the dash, I did the same thing and popped a fuse in the engine compartment. Its the 10 amp fuse in that black box near the air filter...other than that I don't know what to tell you, other that electrical in a car sucks :thumb:
