Does your battery have to be level inorder to hold a charge?

Does your battery have to be level inorder to hold a charge? I'm having an argument with someone about this because I dont think it matters. But does it ?

If it's dry cell or closed chambered like an optima (or braille, or ect. ect.) then no, it doesn't matter.

But for the liquid filled acid batteries then yes, it does matter. If you turn them from upright and level the acid will leak and discharge the battery.

what about a tiny slant ? like not sideways just 10 -15 degrees

Liquid filled batteries rely on the contact of the acid to the cathodes. So no matter how small of a slant there is, it will affect battery charge and life.

The drycell battery however doesn't care Spend the extra couple bucks!

You won't have a car on enough of an incline to matter. There's space between the tops of the cells and the top of the case. The acid won't let the plates into air in a properly-filled battery, unless you're out rockcrawling or the like. It's not an issue in the real car world.

But if he's talking about mounting the battery on it's side, then yeah. It would be an issue, unless it was a dry cell/sealed battery.

Oh, It's in the stock location. I just can't find the plate underneath the battery that you bolt to the bracket and the frame.
