How often does a FPt28 have to be rebuilt?

I only want around 300hp so I'm deciding over a fp t28 orelse a evoIII. Thing is I need my car. I don't have a spare. I can get access to a car for a couple days if needed but it's a hassel.

I figured the evoIII would be a more reliable turbo then the FPT28, because it's built by mitsu and not some wheels thrown into the stock t25 shell, but also if I get the t28 and it dies I could switch the t25 back in until I get the t28 fixed.

I really like the simple stock look but worried abou the reliablity of the FPT28 compared to the T28. Thanks,

my opinion if you go with the fp28 you will be satisfied. im running one on my 98 talon and i am very happy about it and never have had a problem with it. :)

how many miles do u have on it? how up psi? did u check for any kinda shaft play lately?

I wouldn't look at it as which turbo is going to die first and will my car be down. Either turbo should last very very long. Ther are people with 100,000 miles on t25's and 14b's. Another local guy had a fp big28 on his car for two years, and he ran it hard and his engine died; then he sold the turbo to another guy who is still using it hard!

I've had an fp big16g on my car fo the last 20,000 miles at 19psi, and it's still doing well. And usually turbos don't die instantly. They'll get a little shaft play, start leaking a little oil, and then you'll start to notice it.

So get what you want based on your power goals. I don't think you would be happy with a big 28. I would get something bigger. I wish I had gotten something bigger than my big16g, although some days I am quite pleased with it. I would get the evo big16g.

I have the fpbig28 and I am extremely happy with it, I had always heard the quality of fp's products was anmatched. Well the rumors were right this thing is perfect. It has about 7000k miles on it now with no shaft play what so ever. I am boosting 16psi to be 19-20psi shortly. If your goals are only 300hp then go with the fp it only took me and a friend an hour to install this thing in my car and we were ####ing around. If we took ti seriously and worked hard it probably would have taken only an hour or maybe a little more. One recomendation though buy the four layer mani to head gasket from rre and buy a 7cm manifold to turbo gasket. other than that you don't need anything else.

I like my FP BigT28 also. I've had mine for almost a year with no problems at all. It is an excellent street turbo. :thumb:
