I took everything out of the back of my car a while back. Seats, panels. everything. And I could always hear the fuel pump. Or at least what I thought was the fuel pump. It was a whining noise. It was fairly loud. Considering I could hear over my exhaust if i was TRYING to hear it. And I was running just a downpipe. But now I have put the back seat back in.. And i can still hear. but just barely.. I really have to be paying attention.

So does the stock fuel pump make a whining noise?

Im trying to find out if my car has an aftermarket fuel pump.

The stock pump whines pretty loud, yes. You should notice the pitch of the whine sound changing unless you have the fuel pump re-wire modification.

You have an AWD so why don't you just pull it out and look. It would only take 15 minutes to do this. Stock fuel pumps will make noise, all fuel pumps make noise but usually you cannot hear it over a loud exhaust. I have a 255 in my car and the only time I hear it is when I am first turning my key over. Once the car starts it drowns out the sound and I have absolutely nothing in the back of my car but the sheetmetal.

If your pump is abnormally loud then you might want to check the filter on the bottom of it to make sure that it is fairly clean.
