Edmonton,
Friend just bought a stock 92 Stealth R/T with 45K on the odometer... it's not the TT AWD model, but the 222HP FWD one. It's a clean car, I'm just wondering how well my car will test with it.... all i've got is boost turned up to 14psi / new UICP / k+N and 100K on the odometer.

Has anyone owned one of these?

there heavy tanks,222hp vs are 210,not that we are light but i think dsm ftw

I'd say they're pretty rare, so finding anything oem for a turbo model is going to be difficult... I don't think I've ever seen anything for those in the junkyards around my house. Also, I'm sure you can find aftermarket parts for them, but you'd be better off looking in a "3s" forum.

Theres aftermarket parts for those everywhere. Its like a 3kgt really. So most parts bolt right up. But as far as oem parts. I never heard of a r/t unless it was TT awd so that being said it must be a good car. Also trannys are glass box's cause the weight on those so just be careful with that. They fair damn well with 400hp and a nice tranny.

I had a 92 vr4.....biggest mistake of my life. Now, since i've sold it, 3 owners later, its on its 5th trans.

Mind you mine broke from daily driving and it had a shep trans, transfercase and mark williams input shaft.

oh yea, 7400 for a used trans

My last car was a N/T stealth. I can say for sure my stock TSi is faster than my stealth with exhaust and intake. The 222hp dohc 3 liter is a bit over rated, many people say its closer to 200 or even lower. And it has a good 400 pounds on your car too.

sweet sweet, are stealths fairly good modable platforms?? i kept telling him to get the TT AWD instead of just the fwd single turbo

Not for the average person. They're hard to work on and they probably break as much as DSMs, with much more expensive parts. You can get 300+awhp out of them with just bpu mods though... Check out 3si.org if you want more info on the 3/S platform. And what do you mean FWD single turbo? All turbo 3/S cars were AWD, any FWD ones were converted to turbo by their owners.

Their VERY heavy and I have never heard of a factory single turbo in them so it must have been after market unless there's something I don't know. Your DSM would own it. Before the turbo was put in your friend's stealth, a NT First Gen Eclipse would own it by a long shot and a 2g NT with just a K&N filter would own it... Something to think about.

i highly doubt an n/t dsm would "own" an n/t 3si,

My brother owns a NT 3kgt and I have well, you know. People just think they're fast because of their High HP numbers and look of a sports car. I can get some numbers if you want them for quarter mile times, whatever. I used to think they were fast too, but no, not really. I'm logging off for tonight though, so if you want some quarter mile times I'll try and get to it tomorrow. NT DSM > NT 3kgt/Stealth :)

I was by no means saying they were fast...being faster than an n/t dsm does not classify it as being fast, but faster.

I like them. I think it's funny all of the posts on here I've stuck up for 3/Ss... anyways~

The R/T was *basically* the luxury edition of the Stealth. The 1g Stealths (91-93) came in four trim levels: base (SOHC), ES (DOHC, but otherwise pretty basic), R/T (luxury DOHC), and R/T TwinTurbo (DOHC AWD). There was never a FWD turbo model from the factory, single or twin.

As for quickness, any of the above equipped with a manual transmission aside from the base will hand an unmodified N/T DSM it's ass with the same or comparable drivers. The SOHC Stealth is slow as balls and runs mid to high 16's stock. The DOHC N/A 3/Ss are more noted for running mid to low 15's (manual transmission). Considering N/T DSMs run high 15s to low 16s, it's no contest. I've seen it too many times to think otherwise.

For the record, the TT AWD models are the 'very' heavy ones. They weigh in from 3600-41000 (Spyder models 4000+) while N/Ts rarely weigh in over 3250 which isn't much more than an AWD DSM.

For the guy who payed $7400 for a used transmission, I sure hope that is a typo because that can buy you a whole other TT AWD 3S in great condition. I've bought two for less than $5K each and purchased a used transmission for one for $750. Sorry, they aren't as common as your DSM parts. The Getrag transmission parts, demand is high, but there is little supply. People want their cars fixed so they will fork over the dollars. Hell, a brand new transaxle costs no more than $4K from the factory - but who's got that kind of money to fix their cars?

Go visit 3SI.org and stealth316.com and search around for info on 3Ss.

i dont get what's wrong with bench racing if both cars are technically stock and we're both fairly decent drivers. All comes down to varying cars potential. anyway thanks for the replies, i guess the 222hp one doesnt have a turbo just DOHC
