Hey everyone.... I just bought this car about 3 months ago and have only put 156 miles on it because of all the problems I've had with it. And now I think I have my biggest one yet. First off, my emergency breaks are shot, and at $40 a side just for the parts I've not done it yet, so when parking I put it into gear to keep it from rolling. Well 2 days ago, I go out to drive it and can't get it out of gear for like 5 min. Once I finally do get it out of gear, I can't get it to go back into any of the gears for a while. I do after a while and just decide to leave it for another day... I have only learned to drive a stick using this car so I'm still a little new to it and how everything works. (it is SOO much fun though)
So then yesterday I read the chiltons, and checked the clutch fluid and it's bone dry. So I fill that up and since it's wet around where the fork goes through the boot in the trans, I also check the level of the trans fluid. It seemed a little low... maybe a quarter in. lower than it should be but since I didn't have any fluid I just left it cause I thought it would be ok. Since I was in the driveway my car was in neutral and I started it and there was this LOUD grinding, whining noise. I quickly turned off the car and then had my cousin start it and quick turn it off, for me, while I listened to which side it came from cause it almost sounded like belts were slipping but alot louder. Well it was defenatly NOT the belts so I left it for today. I got some more trans fluid from the dealer ($11.00 a quart) cause I thought that might be the reason and filled it up, it only took a little bit and then I realized that I hadn't bled the clutch so I did that too. I again tryed to start it up, in neutral with the clutch in and it was fine... until I started to let the clutch out... then there was the noise again... My father-in-law said it may be the through out bearing but thinks its odd how it happened so sudden. Like one day I could drive it and the next I have all these problems. Also this leak around the boot where the fork goes though, he says should be a dry place in the trans. So what should I do? I'm not sure if I can do the work on it myself although I not too bad at working on a car, I's just I don't have a lift, AND i've never messed with a trans before. Also could it be more than just the bearing? I'm almost leaning towards geting a new-used transmission from ebay or craigslist for maybe $500 but am not sure which one wil fit my car since I have the N/T version. I also believe it's the chrysler one since I saw the chrysler symbol on it. ANY help will be AWSOME and sorry for the long read, I just wanted to give you all the details and what I did.
