I recently was finished and was almost able to start my car a few good cranks and almost, well realized that one major problem, the plate that separates the timingbelt from the balance shaft some how hit my timing belt automatic tensioner and just ate away at my crank angle sensor, ooohh yeah so ordered a new one of sensor and had an extra plate laying around, well after being in a rush I must have not put the timing belt back on the right way and attempted to start this motor and after 2 cranks heard a pop and then nothing, well low and behold my laziness ended up costing me one good head and a week worth of work, bent almost all of my intake valves 3 exhaust valves and broke 2 exhaust valves off entirely, so next day traded a guy one of my old 1g heads I've had forever for another 2g 95 head that is mint condition, and finally have everything on and have checked the timing belt every 10 minutes, and finally after pushing myself for the past 4 days I'm almost ready to start it up tomorrow after putting the oil pan on and slapping the intake on..... what a week so now do it right the first time or redo it over and over again.

Yeah that really sucks! Helped a fellow dsmer with his timing belt and had some minor hickups. Guess thats what happens when you have been up for 20 hours trying to hurry and finish. Hope everything works out for you.

I got lucky in my case, I did a head rebuild and when we put the head back on it must have been 20 below outside * so it felt * and had been out there for 4 hours with a broken water pump bolt....
After getting it out we put it back together and set marks but never set the tensioner..... I drove around for 3 years with NO tension on my timing belt and never slipped a tooth... Dumb luck I guess...
