Do I want to replace my flywheel?

What are the pros and cons for going with one of the aftermarket flywheels rather than staying with my stocker? If anything, I was thinking maybe the lightened stocker from RRE that comes properly machined and stepped.

I'll be installing an ACT 2600 w/street disks, new fork, tob, and pivot ball while the tranny is out for a rebuild.

i threw on a fidanza with my 2900/street disk combo. i personally have no issues driving the car. if anything made the car harder for me to drive, it was the heavier pressure plate. the benefit of a lightweight flywheel is less rotating mass.

for the lightest = fidanza
for light + resurfaceable = act
for stock lightened = rre

A lightened flywheel frees up weight in the rotating assembly. So in a way it "frees" up lost horsepower. The decreased mass also allows the motor to bring revs up more easily. On the flip side it loses them faster as well when you shift so you have to make sure not to go to light.

If you are just going to keep the stocker it has to be stepped to work properly with the new clutch. I dont know how much the rre flywheel is but I have seen fidanza flywheels for $150 and less on ebay so it may be worth it to look into that.

Its a good mod while you are in there and I would recommend it.

I just installed a new gripforce clutch kit and 11 pound flywheel. From my experience, trust me, you don't want to drop the tranny too often. It is a pain in the rear to reinstall the tranny.
Save your dough for a flywheel and throw it in there.
edit: The flywheel from gripforce was stepped correctly to .610".

Yeah... my tranny finally hit the floor this morning. I've worked on tougher crap, but it wasn't fun. Breaking the transfer case loose was WAY harder than it should have been.

How does the lightened RRE stocker and others compare to stock one for strength, warpage, durability, etc.?
