Do i need pistons

just pulled my motor apart and looking at my build list. Do i really need forged pistons right now if im not looking to push 425hp? Im running stock crank and bc i beams on the bottom end. Scm61 for the turbo.
 
No offense, but building a motor with upgraded rods and stock pistons kind of like if the girl you were talking to was trying to have a threesome with you and her hot friend, and then you say "ehh do I really need her friend?" Of course you need her friend. Because once everything falls apart, you will regret not doing it.

You are already in there, just go with the upgraded pistons. A set of Wisecos can be had on Extremepsi for under 500 now on sale.

Edit: Just saw you latest post. Good choice.

Ehhhh.. depends 6bolt vs 7 bolt. if you're only shooting 425 crank. horsepower either one in stock form could do it easily. 425 whp you'd still be safe either way but pushing it on a 7 bolt

Most DSM'ers that actually make it to their power goals, before doing a part out or selling their car, end up going higher than they thought. Hell I thought I would be happy forever with 300whp about 6 years ago.
 
I wasn't happy with it with light bolt ons. and my car only had around 50k on it. I promised myself I'd leave it alone. wasn't gonna cut it up... yeah.. bout that.
 
Which is why we now have 2 in the household LOL..... My 2g is the killer and my girlfriends 1g is a project that is more of a "keep it original" type deal. With her car were just going to do a 20g turbo and suspension mods for auto cross. Hopefully in the next year or two I can race it in max effort at the shoot out.
 
yeah i thought to myself lets do this right and not half assed. Only thing i will reuse is the crank and there are plenty of people pushing big power on stock cranks. After i do my trans i would like the option of turning it up without pulling the motor apart again.

One thing i learned about cars is we always want more. 200 was fun, then 300, then 400 and so on.
 
I just want 300/350. For reals. That's all I want because I still want some MPG's. I will want some more suspension parts for autocross fun later. Good choice on the pistons if your already in there.

I feel like playing with more than 350 is playing with built transmissions and other real expensive drive train parts that currently arent in the budget. If I am to the point of not being happy with 350 in a 4cyl I will be moving to another platform with more cylinders and stronger rear end factory.
