I am getting 660cc and walbro 255 and a 20g turbo i do plan to getting my car tuned but do need the ecmlink or can i just take it to a shop to tune it?

If that's all that youre going to get as far as tuning goes, you might be able to get away with just getting an safc instead of the ecm link. But in all honesty, you'd be better off getting ecmlink just because we as DSM tuners all know, we always want more! haha

have u checked what ecu u have. There are some 98-99 black ecu that u can tune without dsmlink.

i havent checked my ecu but my friends told me that a shop they could hook their computers up to my mas and do he tuning that way

A shop needs some type of device to actually tune your car. You would have to buy ecmlink then drive it there to have it tuned. But since you have a 99 you need to research you ecu and see if there are other options cheaper than ecmlink if price is a factor. Ecmlink is great for the starter tuner because it is all setup and ready to go where others you need a little research to get going.

Like stated with those injectors the safc would work pretty good. You only get fuel control but the 2g ecu has a lower timing map than the 1g's and usually can get away without timing control. To make the most power out of that turbo timing control is needed so you can take timing out to run more boost. More boost and less timing always makes more power than less boost and more timing.

thanks for all the help i am lookig into both of them and will make my choice.

If the scooby in your name refers to subaru, you can also tune subarus with the cable and software you get for tuning the '99 flashable ecu. You're also gonna save a ton of money. The cable is around $200. Just an eprom ECU is $200, then if you get link lite you are out another $400. You could have a wideband and $200 to play with if you got the flashable up and running.

Another nice alternative is DSMchips.com

I'm running 650cc, 20g, walbro 255 and I was on a keydiver stage 3 chip from dsmchips.
The car ran amazing with the chip and still had a lot more potential

My car has never run as good since I got DSMLink, but I'm also still pretty much untuned. I only got DSMLink because I'm thinking about running E85.

if your planning on making any sort of power, get dsm link. You can log and do all sorts of happyness. That way your not getting chips, and then getting safc etc. I did that, just buy ecm link lite for 345. it will control injectors up to about 2050cc, and thomas always stays on top of what is new and hot. Example, tomorrow I am wiring in my ECU fuel/timing map switch, pump gas map, e85 map, changed with a switch :) What I learned over the last 30 years, if you think you need x number of fuel. you will really need 2x fuel for 2x power.
