So I'm getting ready to get DSM link for my car but just curious if I need a Specific one for my car, I have a 94 Talon TSi, its an Auto. The car currently has a Chip tune in the ECU.. So does that mean my ECU is already Socketed?

So if i find a dsm link setup for sale i can buy it? Doesnt have to be 1g or 2g, auto or manual specific?

Awesome! Thanks guys ... oh one more question, Do you have to have a laptop for all this to hook up to and tune from?

yes. unless you have an ostrich box. then you can remove the box and bring it inside to flash. but that's a lot of work. you could get a 2g black box ecu and convert the harness to it or buy link.

The chip does matter if it's 1g or 2g fyi. And also the logging cable which is very important is diff between 1g and 2g. You have a 94 so you need a 1g chip and cable!
Sorry yes that stuff matters! I was thinking only the program that you download from their site for some reason, my bad.
Recap: You need 1G chip and cable
Download the v3 program onto laptop from here: http://www.ecmtuning.com/downloads.php
Once running, put the correct setings in on setup.

also, heres the v3 package link. http://www.ecmtuning.com/product_info.php?products_id=36 look at the options at the bottom, that tells you all the fields that need to be correct.

Now im confused... everyone else is saying there is no specific DSM link?????

The chip is different between 1g and 2g and the cable is different since they have different diagnostic ports. Its not auto or manual specific. All the other things like injectors, maf, etc can be changed in the software.

Dude this is totally irrelevant the guy is not trying to flash ecus and on top of that he has a 1g so a 99 black box is no good for him enless he does a lot of rewiring

The op asked what version of link he needed which he can buy any as you simply input all your info when you do your intial setup minus being 1g or 2g

This is not true 100% of the time i was digging in craigslist before and came across a 94 talon i clicked it and it was a 2g i told the guy he mistyped that he had a 95 he replied back with a pic of the title showing 94 and a second pic of his vin number

don't get your panties in a wad man. i'm just making a suggestion. flashing an ecu that is flash ready is cheaper than sending an ecu out and spending like $500+ to get it socketed. just making suggestions. flash ready is cheaper in the long run.

If its a 2g with a 94 manufacturing date its still a 95

Thank you, this was very helpful! So I'm going to have it dyno tuned after I get it.. Should I just let the shop hook up this dsm link? Or can I do that before hand and still drive it there not tuned?

Just thought of another question. With v3 link can you set up launch control with it like 2step on an auto, or allow it to rev up higher for a launch?

glad I could help :) and yes, you can do that with v2 even, I have it I know. It's very simple. Also, 2-step is for manual and you torque brake on autos and need a higher stall converter to build big boost on big turbos. :thumb:

Lol well I have no problem building boost on my auto. My problem is getting enough rpms on a launch. So I need more rpms!!

go the the supported vendor list at bottom of page, search is your friend, site has been around so long so much information, and switching subjects mid thread isn't gonna help you either.

lots of torque converter options, but by your statement or I need more rpms, I suggest you max out your stock torque converter and do a lot of reading on dsmlink

Try this for launching autos, it works better than traditional torque braking (foot on brake and gas, then off brake and floor it). Put it in neutral, pump the brakes a few times and press down hard. Whilst still pressing down on the brake, rev the motor a bit up to around 4k a couple times. You should feel the brake go down a little more due to the vacuum assist. At this point, shift to drive and go 1/2 to 2/3 throttle or so to build boost, then floor it until RPMs rise and just before the car starts to move (it'll take a couple tries to find that point) let off the brake and keep the throttle floored. That is the most effective way to launch and awd auto bar none.
