So I was in the shucks parking lot tonight and I decide to let my buddy drive my car. I'm not looking at he starts it up. Immediatly I hear an alarm start going off, and I think to myself "man, my alarm just set off some poor fool's alarm."

I turn around and it's MY car that's going off. The headlights are flashing and the horn is going. Apparently I had locked the car door and he unlocked it by reaching in the open window and unlocking it.

The thing is, to my knowledge I had no alarm system. The previous owner told me there was no factory remote or anything.

Another thing, when I turn my car off a green light in the gauge cluster came on that says "security"

I assume because of these I have a factory alarm system, how do I check?

And also what are my options to start using this? I have no remote.....

Mine has that too, AFAIK there is no remote. I was unloading groceries from my car one night I popped the hatch and locked the door and closed it and soon as I opened the hatch it started going off. If you put the key in the door and turn it like youre unlocking the door it will disable it. When you lock the door ( on mine ) its enabled. I tried mine like that one day after I figured out it had one, had the window rolled down and reached in and unlocked the door and opened it but no alarm. The little security light hasnt been coming on lately maybe a blown fuse or something.

I recently purchased my 96 GS-T Spyder, and had the same problems. I had the top down, but had locked the doors. Not thinking, I reached in and set the alarm off. Imagine my surprise! Anyways, after I got it turned off I looked into the onwers manual and it explained it all. The system is armed when you lock the doors, and is only de-activated when you unlock either door or the trunk with a key. It will go off if you open the doors or the trunk from the inside without disabling it first. I had a remote, but none of the buttons were marked so I hit the panic button first trying to figure it out  . The green light in the dash is the car saying the system is armed, it will go out after 20 seconds or so but the system is still armed until you use the key. Hope this helps.

so if I have that green security light going on, then I for sure have keyless entry? b/c i took that rear panel off and found a keyless entry sender unit (it said something like that) and i figured i did. i called satan and they did a search on my car or something and they said that i didnt. i told them that i found that unit and then they said bring it down and we'll have a look (yeah a $45 look), i said thnx but no thnx and let it go. so from what you guys know, do i have KLE or not?

So will only the one labeled for 95-99 eclipses work?

In my mind (from the way things have been described) that anything remote that uses radio waves should be able to work...

I assume I am wrong, but can anyone tell me why?

Well if you get the green security light then you have a factory alarm system, and they originally came with a remote which had lock/unlock/panic on it. At least my 96 did, and the diagram for the remote was in the owners manual. So in short, if you had a factory system you had keyless entry. :thumb:

I never noticed the green light either, until I knew to look for it. Simply because of the fact it only comes on after you lock the door, at which time I am on my way out the door, so I am not likely to look at the dash.

mine was ripped out  i talked to Defiant about fobs, and went to ebay and found some, but then went out and removed the rear driver side cover and no module but the connections are there, so dont know what is up with that, ill have to find one that is junked and get the stuff i need...

yea u have the factory alarm system just like me i have the keypad too but you wouldnt even be able to tell its an alarm when u lock it only the interior lights go on real quick to tell u its armed. i really wish there was a way to hook it up to the headlights or the horn

i have the same prob, sorta. i had my hood popped and was doing some work and dropped a wrench and all of a sudden my alarm went off, i didnt even know i had one! it scared the crap out of me when it happened. i got it turned off by locking my door with the key. i tried to set it off again but couldnt...hhmm, i also have the green security light that sometimes comes on, sometimes it doesnt. :talon:

ALSO, using a key will disarm the alarm, but if you use the key on the passenger side (like my friend did at 3am when we were infront of a hotel , he forgot something in the car and i handed him the keys not thinkin) the alarm WILL go off, so always unlock the trunk/drivers door, before unlocking the passenger door manually, found this out the hard way on my first day driving it to school :thumb:

I have a question, I have an aftermarket pursuit system thats keyless and motion-sensing that came with the car. Every now and then like twice in the past year the frigging stock alarm starts going off and no matter what I do it wont shut off so I have to sit in front of wherever I am letting the thing go for like 5 minutes. Anyone have any suggestions...I thought they would get rid of the stock one or disconnect it or something but its a real bi*** when it happens.
