Do 650's and higher injectors always idle like crap at start up?

Friday I go in to a shop to have my car tuned to 11:1 on the dyno.

Just so you know, I have yet to see a shop that will take care of your Lo Throttle settings. You will have to take care of them sitting in your driveway.

My Lo Throttle settings are right where CanadianTsi's are, between -8 and -12%.

And just as a heads up FYI:

Even though two people may be talking about 650's, they might have different brands and those different brands will have slightly different deadtimes. So, YMMV.

BUT I'm sure you'll be OK. :thumb:

You won't either since your a 2G and don't get knock counts from the datalogger.

Steve

Godammit I thought the ecu was still able to monitor this, only that the SAFC couldn't read it. Too late, I already ordered the logger which is probably for the best long run. I think all the tuning guides here rely on knock. Guess I'm SOL until I get a real knock sensor then. I guess that means I have to go by guessing according to when timing is pulled?

Don't forget that DSMLink doesn't include an EPROM ECU. So add that $250 back in. I'd still go with DSMLink though.

I thought they included that! Damn this hobby is expensive...

Doesn't it log knock retard (how much timing has been pulled due to knock)? It has to tell you something about knock, otherwise what good is it?

Yep, it is expensive to do it right. I have a '95 though, so DSMLink was the obvious choice for me.

You have a Knock Sensor and The ECU monitors it.

Pocketlogger cannot read the knock signal that is going to the ECU on a 2G.

Also don't forget to add in the cost of a laptop when getting dsmlink. :thumb:

The logger on a 2g doesnt log knock you just have to look for dips in your timing to tell you if your getting knock. If it drops timing after you go full throttle when it starts climbing back up your getting some knock. Just so you know what to look for when you get your logger.

Yeah that's what I figured I will have to do.

Tell you what though, even untuned running rich for some reason my gas mileage seems about 20% better. Before I used to get about 275 miles to a tank. Now I'm half a tank in and at 175 miles with my typical driving routine. I thought I would lose gas mileage on bigger injectors, but now I'm thinking my 5+ year old 450s were why my mileage sucked before!

Hmmmm ive never thought about stock injectors being a problem for bad gas mileage.

Anyways im in a debate between running 560's or 650s and am leaning towards 650's. You guys think ill be able to tune with just SAFCII and datalogger on 650's. I want to run 17-20 psi on 91 octane...CA gas :(

Could it possibly be because your safc is a little too rich at idle and your plugs are fouling? After a minute or so when the plugs get nice and hot it burns the oil/crud/crap off the plugs and the car runs nice again.

My GVR4 does the same with 720 Denso's, 2G AFM & SAFC and Im guessing this is why.

Cheers

Not sure what the 91 octane will do to the equation, but I'm running 650's, 22psi with 94 octane, a pocketlogger and SAFC-II.

I think CanadianTsi is running about 24 or 25psi on the 650's with just a logger and SAFC-II. Don't quote me on that, but I'm sure he'll stop in and let you know.

Yep 24psi with just the S-AFC and a logger/wideband...took me to the time in my Sig on straight pump gas. Although I am out of Injector and will be upgrading over the winter and probably going with a Key diver chip or DSMLink if the wallet allows it...

Just want to update that I fixed my idle problems. Richened up my AFC setting at 1000 rpm to -5% from -25%. Made one hell of a difference! Idles like stock now.

Yeah, I went to -5% from -25%...richened. I'm a noob at tuning but not that new. :D
