Do 14bs have a mounting ring?

My 91 tsi reaches full boost really slowly. The guy I bought it from said he put a t25 turbo to manifold gasket in it. I believe this is probably part of the problem, restricting airflow. So I plan to replace the gasket with the proper sized 6cm gasket. I'm not going to port the thing, so I was wondering -

Do 14b's have that little alignment ring that fits into the turbine inlet and also fits into the manifold? If so, where can I get one?
 
They all have the alignment ring, and if I'm not mistaken, all stock 1G and 2G manifolds have a 6cm outlet. You don't need that alignment ring. If you're dealing with slow turbo response, check ehxuast housing on the turbo for cracks and leaks around the wastegate flapper. If the leaks are large enough, it'll slow the turbo spool time.

Well, if I'm not porting it, and both the manifold and turbo have that step in there for the ring, wouldn't leaving the ring out create an unnecessary opening, and lower the exhaust velocity?

Ps- Are you saying that the t25 and 14b use the same manifold to turbo gasket? If so, that's good news for me. I just assumed that the 14b had a bigger turbine inlet.
 
I dont think having the ring is all that big of a deal, but if you wish to use one go for it. I dont use one on my ported 14b and i dont see any carbon buildup so things must have sealed up just fine.

Yes, if you left out the ring and didn't port it, the step in the turbine inlet would cause some turbulence. That's why most people port the hell out of it to make a larger, smoother entrance to the turbine. Check for exaust leaks and do a boost leak test to eliminate those from the possible list of things that might be causing slow spool-up.

Good call. I haven't really noticed any carbon buildup around the manifold or the turbo to manifold gasket, although they are usually pretty oily so I probably wouldn't be able to tell if one was leaking. I guess I'll have to clean them up then wait a while =)
