DIY mechanical lifter for setting cam timing

Here is a quick and dirty way to make your own mechanical lifter for setting cam timing/measuring valve lift and it cost about 3 bucks to make.

I'm not sure how to put an explanation with each picture so Ill just explain it and attach the pics.

1] Go to Home Depot buy a package of 1/4x20 x 12.5 MM insert nuts.

2] Disassemble an old lifter.

3] Put some super glue around the rim of the nut insert. It fits perfect with no side play but the glue just keeps the insert from spinning

4) Push the nut insert into the lifter.

5] 1/4x10 x 1" screw now goes in the insert. You may want to do some grinding on the head of the screw to allow it to fit into the rocker arm better.

Assemble the head and adjust the screw to obtain 0 lash and your good to go. You can now find your max lift and came lobe center.

Like I said, quick and dirty but it's easy, it works and its cheap.
