I have a 95 that has a 6bolt swap. I purchased a new dipstick tube and stick from stm so being as it's a 6 bolt i ordered the 6 bolt one. When i pulled my old one out it's full mark is at a different spot than the new one that came in. Looks like the new one has the fill mark about 1 quart higher than the one that was in there. I can't just put 5 quarts in and see if it's on the full mark because i have the larger aftermarket moroso oil pan. It could be possible the person i bought this from had the 2g dipstick and tube in the car when i got it. Anyone know the differences between the 2.
 
What's the capacity of the Moroso oil pan. 1G or 2G dipstick will have no bearing on oil level. Find out the oil capacity of the pan, put that amount of oil in and then mark the dipstick for the full mark.
 
Not really possible to do the quantity of the moroso because i have an external filter mount that uses 2 filters so that will also add extra quantity to the setup. I bought the stm sprung dipstick tube and stick and the full mark is definately not in the same place as the original that was in the car.
 
Let's see if this is more understandable. For instance lets assume the Moroso hold's 5 quarts when full. We put 5 quarts of oil in, we insert the dipstick and mark where the oil level is. We then start the engine and run it enough to fill the filters. We then check the oil level again and add enough oil to bring it back up to the full mark. Let's assume that was probably another quart. We now know the crankcase and filters are full. In the future we know we need 6 quarts of oil to do an oil change. We also know where the full mark is on the dipstick.

Let's do another analogy. Take a 4 quart sauce pan and pretend it's the 6 bolt oil pan. Put 2 quarts of water in it and stick a ruler in and measure the depth of the water. Now take the water and pour it in a larger sauce pan and pretend it's the moroso. Measure the depth again. It's going to show up on a different spot on the ruler.

That's why I'm saying it doesn't matter what dipstick you use, you have to find the full quantity first to have the peace of mind that your oiling system is full.
 
I would get the correct dipstick for tube the block and continue to go by the marks. The factory marks are calibrated so the oil is high enough that oil pickup is submerged and not too high so that the crank isn't splashing in the oil and causing foaming. If you are still using the stock oil pickup the marks on the dipstick should still be correct , If the oil pan is deeper or higher capacity its just going to take more oil to reach the marks on the dipstick. The stock dipstick will show the correct level, the oil still needs to be at the same level when full no matter what capacity the oil pan is unless you were using a dry sump or some kind of custom system.
 
Just so it's known: 1g/2g/6-bolt/7-bolt dipstick tubes AND dipsticks are all interchangeable (at least as far as oil level reading is concerned). Any combination of dipstick tube/dipstick will result in the same level reading. If they don't, it's because one of them is somehow molested from its original specs (or the dipstick is not being fully inserted).
