Hey Guys,

i just recently rebuild my motor and lately I've been getting this winning/squelling noise coming from my motor. i first thought it was a belt, so i made sure all my belts were tight. with all the belts tight i still have this noise. my next thought was i had a bad harmonic balancer. then today while my engine was running and making this noise i pulled the dipstick out and the noise stopped. theres a lot of suction coming from the dipstick.

is this normal for my dipstick to have this much suction?

thanks for the help

I've had this happen on my VW Passat, but it has quite an elaborate PCV system, which was clogged. If you loosen the oil filler cap does it stop the noise too? Try it and get back with us ;)

Sounds like vacuum in the crank case like holo82 stated. Never heard of this on a turbo car but would have to assume boost is getting into the crank case as well? The crank case should not have vacuum at all, for when it does you engine will be consuming excessive amounts of oil.

sorry for the delay in response, been busy with work and getting wedding plans all straightened out.

anyways the sound does go away when i remove the oil cap. the oil cap is hard to pull off when the car is idling. its kinda like trying to pull off a suction cup that you stick to your windshield.

could i have my vaccum lines for my boost controller and waste gate hooked up wrong?

thanks for the help

Vern

Uh, if your boost controller and/or wastegate lines are connected somehow to your crankcase then yes. I can't see how someone could goof that up but well...

Check your PCV valve.

The PCV is brand new, but i'll double check it tonight. I'll also double check my vacuum lines for the boost controller.

do you guys think its safe to drive the car as it is with lots of vacuum in the crank case? the car has 0 kms on it since the rebuild, and the engine has only idled in my garage.

thanks for the help
