yesterday i bought a 2g eclipse gst -96 which the previous owner blew the gearbox on.. he also installed a gearbox from an gs and it showed that the driveshafts didn´t fit so he got sick of it..
today i measured the gst driveshafts on the "differential side" and they were aproximatly 28mm on the outside of the splines while the gs gearbox was about 26.27mm or so?
to make a long story short are there any other mitsubishi models that uses the same driveshafts as the eclipse gs that i can use on my eclipse? eclipses arent all that easy to get a hold of parts to here in sweden and i want to get the car running as soon as possible.

another thing i don´t get is i´ve browsed the forum for quite some time now and just recently registred. so of course i tried to search for a similar thread in the forums using the search function, then when i clicked on a thread i thought could have the answer for this it just stood semething like: you are a new member and need to browse a thread before you go on or something like that?
i mean that´s what i was trying to do so what´s that about?

If you have a 96 eclipse GST then a transmission from a 95-99 Eclipse GS will not work on it. If you used a transmission from a 90-94 GS then your gonna want CV Axels from a 90-94 and I doubt they will fit in 2g hubs, also I don't think you can swap the hubs as the suspension geometry is entirely different.

okey, if that´s true then maybe the previous owner bolted up a gearbox from a 1g? is there anyway of telling what the gearbox belongs to? like numbers or so?
in worst case scenario i might have to get hold of an gst 2g gearbox:)

They had 4G63 non-turbo 2Gs in Europe, so technically what the OP stated could very well be true.

The big difference between a 1G and 2G transmission is that the 2G unit will have three mounts running to it, whereas the 1G transmission will only have the transmission mount attached to it. Additionally, a 2G transmission will have a counterweight on the shift mechanism (where the cables attach). The odds are that you do not have a 1G transmission in your car.

The gearbox should have a code on it, as shown in the upper left portion of this photo, straight left from the top breather (black rubber thing):

Get those numbers for us and we should be able to help you further. Pictures may also help some, but definitely are not a requirement.

exactly! i checked the numbers on both gearboxes and the gs gearbox that is installed at the moment has kf5m312zvz and the broken gst has kf5m3325pzt. i checked and the wire linkage, clutch cylinder, the "frame mount" (bad english) fits so i´m thinking of just bying a new pair of driveshafts from the gst and hope i they have the same splines as the gst on the outer cv joints? if not maybe i can put the inner gs and the outer gst cv joints together if the splines on the driveshafts are the same to get it to work since there are no gst gearboxes on the market on the swedish scrap yards. and as you said the gs over here are 4g63 N/A

For Europe what I have found is that the 2G 4G63 non-turbo car shares the same wheel hub assembly as the turbo version (part number MR455004), meaning the splines on a non-turbo axle should fit the hubs on your car. If I did my searching correctly, and I will try to validate this some other way, the non-turbo axle part numbers you will need are as follows:

LH Front Drive Axle Assy: MR232727
RH Front Drive Axle Assy: MR232728

I'm in the process of downloading the Europe version of Mitsubishi ASA to further verify those numbers for you. But to answer your question, from what I have found, yes you should be able to use GS axles.

EDIT: Checked in ASA, the above part numbers correspond with the manual transmission (part number MD974388) coded F5M31-2-ZVZT, the non-turbo transmission.

that was the best answer i could get! thanx a lot for the efforts you put in searching for this!
best regards johan

Your probably going to need the shafts for the n/a transmission I bet they have a smaller shaft. Like the transmission in the n/a spyders here in the states.

Edit: I see it has been said.

Yeah I had forgotten that the GS was a N/A 4g63 in EU. I am jealous, would love to have a N/A 2g but I wont deal with owning something with a chrysler engine in it.

just wanna say that the driveshafts fits bolt on if someone else would run in to the same problem.
