Difference in Auto or manual ECUs?

I'm wondering if an e-prom ecu from a 95 tsi fwd automatic would work in my 96 gst 5speed?

No, it will not.

Actually, yes it will.

95/96 ECU's are the same, while 97-99's are different. Transmission type doesn't matter on the 2G's.

Exactly.

Our cars have TCU's which control the transmissions. In a 1G an auto ECU in a manual would not work as the Auto 1G's came with 390cc injectors while the manuals came with 450cc injectors.

So to answer the original poster's question, yes it will work
