So the threads on my ebay clone B&M short shifter are not the same as stock (10mm x 1.25). I thought about just hacksawing the threaded portion of the SS off and using a die to put the correct threads below it (which would also lower the shift knob
). But the area below the threads is wider in diameter than the threaded portion, and to my knowledge the part you're threading has to be the correct outside diameter to use a die on it. Is this correct? Also, it gets even wider below this and the stock shift knob wouldn't be able to get on the SS since the bottom of the knob goes below the threaded portion and is not much wider than the threaded portion. So I have no idea how I would get the SS to the correct diameter. I don't have a lathe or anything like that.
So instead of all this I thought of something else. I could "fill in" the threads on the s.s. with JB Weld and then use the 10x1.25 die on it. But I don't know how secure this would be. Anyone have any advice?
