Cps malfunction.

What causes it? My car had a few issues and then this came. I was receiving missfires in cylinder 3 for a couple days noe and it fixed itself. Anyway I've been hearing a clicking sound from the engine which I assumed was lifter tick. Now I read it could be the.crank. also when I press down the clutch, it makes a click, its noticeably loud. The clutch feels like its sticky too. It goes up slowly. My has been leaking oil from the valve cover but I stopped it. Oil light is on when the key isvin the on position. I assume thats nirmaoDid my car crankwalk? If so that would be a tragedy since I'm 18 and this is my car that I worked for.

Currently the car doesn't start at all.I always assume worst case scenario. Just preparing for the worst.

Edit: I'm going to try switching out the CPs and check for play. If that doesn't work then idle.

okay that dude repeated exactly what i said ill never understand why people do that on this site except to increase post count

go buy a wiring kit from harbor freight or your local parts store if they carry them. itll come with a spool of wire and some attachments. get the spaded end and wire it to either end of the wire. now put your hand on the starter after youve located it and feel for where the power cable plugs onto the little metal solenoid. its a flat piece of metal coming off the starter that the power cable slides on.

slide your spaded wire onto that piece of metal and attach the opposite side of the wire (that you should strip and have bare/exposed) to your positive terminal on your battery.

if your starter works, then it will started spinning and crank, if it doesnt work, it will click and lock up and shit the bed.

do not take it to a parts store starter test station. those stations only test certain things in th estarter but does not fully replicate real world application. only way to accurately test is to bring the car's battery directly to the starter.

Thanks I will do that tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't shit the bed as you said. Any other suggestions are welcome, I want to check everything since I have to drive a couple miles away to get to my car thats stuck haha.

test your starter and be sure your terminals have good connection

if your starter does crank when youve ran a wire to the battery and you know it works then you need to get you a test light and shove that bad boy in the power cable that clips on the starter. have someone try to crank the car with the tool in the power cable this will tell you if youre even getting your 14.5v to the starter

If you got a crank sensor circuit malfunction, and the car will not fire, either yes your crank has walked over and the trigger plate has destroyed the crank sensor, or your balance shaft belt broke and that took out the sensor. Either way if the sensor threw a code it is not working, your car will not start without the sensor.

Its just I've dumped so much cash into this machine that its past the point of keeping LOL.

Not gonna try and sound like a prick or anything but its a DSM. They aren't the most reliable cars out there. I have learned this in my short experience with them. Don't give up on it and part it out. I have also learned that 90% of the time its something easy. I agree with everyone else it sounds like your starter is bad.

I know they aren't the most reliable vehicles out, but I kept it stock except the turbo, it came with an aftermarket unit. Everything else is bone stock and I was hoping it would be somewhat reliable being that it was stock.

Damn that is a scary thought. my trigger plate looked fine and the crank sensor I removed was just dirty. I replaced it. But the car doesn't even crank over which is abnormal. I have no balance shafts, they were eliminated, or so I was told but when I did the timing belt, they were indeed removed.

The typical causes of the code are as follows: The cps itself, wiring to the cps, and the ecu. I highly doubt its the ecu.

Its lookin more and more like crankwalk but I believe its not. I don't want to be the unlucky few percent with it...

Here is the thing about CW. Something like 80% of all CW cases happen under 110k miles. Or something crazy like that. Well anyway, the case is that, if you have a high mileage motor chances of it being cw gets thinner and thinner as the mileage gets up there. I'll see if I cant dig up the statistic.

I got it to start by push starting it and drove it all the way home, seems the starter crapped out on me. Got it home and it doesn't start anymore :D. I have never been more relieved, its still going to be sold but at least its running once again! Starter going in tomorrow, then whoever wants it takes it!

going to check it out and swap in a new CPS.

Could the ecu do this?

Well ####, i changed the sensor and nothing.

I tried hitting the starter to see if it would work and no luck, it just clicks a lot when I turn the key, sometimes it doesn't click at all unless I press the gas pedal.

when my CPS went bad the car would turn on, it might be that just my .02

Well the piece of shit has broken once again. As you can tell, I'm pretty pissed off. I changed the starter, brand new reman and well it still doesn't start. Cleaned the cables and terminals ,tested battery. The whole deal. Stil gettin p0335, didn't get it when I reset it though. Car only starts through a jumpstart from another car. Sounds like shit when starting up but idles fine. I took it out for a drive and well it overheated I think. The temp gauge shot up and started moving with any electrical motion. If I turn on the a/c it increases and fluctuates. If I gas it, the temp gauge shoots up. If I let it idle it stays in the middle, if I gas it increases. Once back in the middle, anything that uses electricity makes the needle shoot up. Needless to say, I despise this car with a passion.

Any more suggestions to my newfound problems and the nostart..?

Something like 91.3% of all crankwalked cars were white.

I made that stat up. Just like every other stat mentioned in this thread about crankwalk.

Also, a sensor can just...go bad. Check for play, no point in speculating.

What sensor could cause all my issues... I've changed the CPS sensor already. Thermostat is literally 2 months old, every part on this damn car is 2 months old or newer except for the block itself and the turbo. I've literally changed every single damn part on this car.

Well, I can promise you that jumper cables don't solve crankwalk issues, but they do solve bad battery issues.

I had it tested and they told me it was fine. I tried my friends battery as well and it still would not start.

So this tells me that the starter is requiring more juice to start...so I would be checking for voltage drop at the starter and then determining where the extra resistance is coming from, if there is any.

Idk man, I've felt I've just invested way too much time and money on this car. If I don't diagnose or fix the problem tomorrow, its being sold to whoever takes it off my lawn first for a decent price. 2k sounds about right... I've gone over every single piece I've changed, alternator, battery, every hose, every gasket, head rebuilt, starter, power steering, injectors, plugs, wires, Knock sensor, CAS, CPS, Timing belt everything, Fuses, terminals, thermostat, Radiator, head gasket, Convertible top, Frame fixed. Once more I will give it a shot. Any suggestions are welcome.

You are more than welcome to take it. Thing is people see me selling the car and instantly think I beat on it. I'm 18 haha but people don't believe me when I say I baby the car because its my car that I paid for so risking the money I saved is stupid. So far I've done everything myself with the help of my mechanic but this has lead me to a standstill. Plus, I haven't even been able to drive the car a lot since it has broken on me quite a bit. I believe in total I've only actually driven it about 2 weeks since I bought it 5 months ago.

My eclipse was doing the same thing when i first got it but i have the 420a non turbo version. It ended up being the crank sensor and the cam sensor.....but to as far as you selling your. Ive been without my car 2G for about 2 and a half months now due to suspension problems and things like that. I finally broke down and decided to get it fixed by aa shop being that its been to cold here for me to work on it......well 900 later i still dont have it....i miss it alot. that cars my baby. I hear ya with spending alot of money on a car for nothing being my first car was a 94 galant that i dropped almost 5 grand into just to have the trans blow....i only drove that for about two weeks too so i know your pain but before you make your final decision to get rid of it really just take a step back and reconsider it all. Even after all the frustration my galant caused me i think back on it an i realllllllly regret getting rid of it....especially if this is your first car! just a bit of friendly advice though.

What do you mean by check it? Remove it again? It was a pain to get it in there without taking the timing belt off. It is connected to the plug.

Sounds like you have a bad or loose ground wire. Check the ground going to the body of the car. if that is loose it can play havoc with your electronics, like your temp gauge.

If thats the case I'll just replace the ground connected to the battery. It looks pretty bad I'll admit. I sprayed some of that terminal cleaner and wiped it off.

Send me an email:

with the information of the car. I have my buddy who is only 4 hours away from you who will pick up the car.

Alright I have another theory, could it be my ecu with the electronics messing with the temp and the car not starting unless being jumped?
