This weekend I was driving home for mothers day. As I merged onto the interstate in 3rd gear I accelerated about 60% throttle. I hit boost and then I hear *tink*tink*tink*tink* Like a bolt fell off somewhere. I was only 20 miles from my house and I didnt see anything major fall off so I kept going. I turned my radio off closed my sunroof and windows and putzed back home without getting into boost one time and park it in the garage.
I look under the hood and all my belts are intact, timing belt it still there(and in good shape)
all the major hoses are connected, intercooler is all connected.
I warm it up the next day and hear a tick tick tick pause..... then a tick tick tick pause.... then a tick tick tick pause.... I hear this around the timing belt area. After My car was warmed up completely the sound went away.
I drive it around the neighborhood cautiously, and once i hit a straight away i hit the throttle enough to get into boost. My boost gauge shows 0 (I Have proper vacuum) under pressure.
I can hear it building pressure and the it sounds like it all leaks out.
I took the intake off; and where the impeller blade spins is all scratched right in front of the impeller blade. There was very little shaft play in the turbo and the blade spun freely when i spun it with no evidence of it scratching against the wall of the turbo. (even though it was all scratched up) It also looked like someone had replaced the blade in the turbo and maybe that was why it was scratched? anyways back to the story. I fire the car up and the turbo seems fine. What could this be? I have a slippy ACT 2100 clutch did something on that break?
If anyone has any opinions on what this could be that would be great. I am not driving it right now and it will sit in the garage til June 3rd when I return home from a business trip.
Sorry I dont have any pics. I know that would help
I forgot to add I do have some boost leaks, but before this happened I could still build boost, like 13PSI
:dsm:

Maybe some exhaust leaks. Possibly boost leaks. Check for in and out play on the turbo also. Good signs of a dying turbo with a decent amount of movement.

maybe something on your intake (like a screw or something) gotr sucked inside your turbo? if u heard a tick tick noise and your blade is scratched, maybe thats what happened.

but ya see if your turbo is just gone? boost leak test..

Doubt it.. A sucked in bolt into a turbo would cause more than a few scratches...

The impellar blades were in perfect shape. I dont think anything got sucked into the turbo. Have you ever ran over a medium sized rock and had it thrown up into the engine bay and then it falls back out again. Thats what it sounded like.

Do a boost leak test and make sure the arm is still attached to the wastegate and wastegate actuator.

hmmmmmmm....... after re-reading your post, you say the sound is by your timing belt? i'm thinking your lifters are starting to go. my car does the same, and so do alot of DSMs. my lifters make a tick tick noise when i first start it up, then it goes away when its warm. but sometimes the tick tick noise will come and go. theres nothing i can do unless i want to get new lifters. i'm guessing your having the same trouble.

I think your inducers were scratched. I had the BISS screw come out and it made a nifty little noise when it left. Its an easy thing to overlook just in case. Thats all I can think of at 4am.

If that came out would it cause my idle to be funny? I know I had it adjusted awhile ago because of a high idle issue. During the past month and a half that I drove it, it had weird idle. If I blipped the throttle that would cure it and would would go back to normal. But sometimes it would stick as high as 1700 RPMs which is almost 1000 over normal. Normally it would stick in the 1200 RPM range though.
I have no idea what inducers are, but ill go do a search and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the replies people!!! Keep em comin!:dsm:

Would not having my BOV recirculated cause the weird idleing? Also Ive heard the Cruise control cable can get rusty and make the throttle stick?
I wont have any pics til after june3rd and june 6th i will be going to get it fixed. Just wondering in the meantime what it is

There is absolutely another option for this issue. :D
There is an additive for your oil that will stop the awful valve tick associated with our motors. :thumb:
It is not cheap though.

LUCAS HEAVY DUTY OIL STABLEIZER :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Tested and works like a charm its somewhere over $10 a bottle and a bottle is good for about 2 oil changes.

I use this religously, and managed a Advance Auto parts formerly, so I have tried it all, ONLY this will work short of a rebuild.

Also comes in synthetic for you fancy oil types :D

Dam good stuff, all lucas products BTW, are some of the best there is, when I have to choose products between lucas and anyting else for a type of fluid, Lucas everytime no question.

No I don't work for them I just have used and trust there fluids, with amazing results from each type they make. :dsm:
