ok so i have had this small 16g center section sitting around for awhile and i decided to try and put it on my 1g by taking off the compressor and turbine housing from my 14b and putting it on the 16g. got my turbo all off and everything took it apart and realized that wasnt gonna work so i put my 14b back together and bolted it back up now my car wont boost and theres smoke coming from the exhaust manifold area.. is my turbo done or can i try to take it off and fix it.. and is it safe to drive like that? thanks.

Did turbine and compressor wheel spin freely when you reassembled it?
Does it spin free now?
Did you attempt to remove compressor/exhaust wheel from the shaft?

i did remove the compressor/turbine wheel from the shaft i put it all back together the same way i took it apart and it spun but i check now and it does not spin freely.. can i take it apart and fix it to spin freely?

Well, there's your answer.

You should've never removed comp and exh. wheels. They're extremely precisely balanced. Once they're off, balancing is non-existent anymore, so it simply whobbled itself to destruction. This should be a lesson for you. NEVER remove wheels from a turbo, unless you're plannig it to be professionally balanced.

And no, you can't fix it.

Just wondering, why did you take the wheels off?

Get a blown 16g and use the comp housing from that on your CHRA.
