Did i have an evo3 turbo or a small16g????

I just upgraded to a 50 trim and am selling my evo3 turbo and andymoraitis says its a small16g. When i bought my car on autotrader i stil have the ad, evo 3 ported and clipped with flapper?

Here are some pic, thing that is weird i mean my new 50 trim pulls a lot better then my evo(if it is) but not huge amount, like a small 16g would:confused:
 
Yea man, that is most definitely NOT an evo 16G. The turbine housing is shaped like a coke bottle with curves and the standard small/big 16G has a square mitsubishi flange. The numbers on compressor housing will tell you what type of 16G it is.
 
Hey guys, you can tell by the compressor cover as long as no "special" work has be done to the compressor section of the turbocharger.

Part numbers -

Mitsu Evo III 16G ends in 1470.

Mitsu Big 16G ends in 420.

Mitsu Small 16G ends in 520.

Please note these are the last 3-4 digits of the turbocharger serial number.

Just depends. At lower boost, 15 pounds or whatever, the small 16 is more efficient. The difference between the 16s is not pronounced until higher boost.

Thus, (assuming about 15psi) upgrading to your 50 from a small or evo 16 would essentially "feel" the same.
 
took the o2 housing off today,doesnt look ported and clipped with flapper right
 
I'm sorry. I just didn't want you selling this as an EVO III and getting backlash for it. If the original seller swapped the wheel, he would have said so. Maybe he thought it really was an EVO III, but unfortunately, the serials don't bear it out. Either that, or he swung you over a barrel since you didn't know yourself.

I also agree that the 50 trim will really shine at higher boost. You won't feel much difference between the two at 15 psi.

Thanks andy, yea that woulda sucked if i did sell it as a evo3, the kid i bought it from didnt know shit, the story it kinda ####ed up, when i bought it he never put it on the road, he only had it for couple months never reg it but had miles on it, so who knows. Think it has the 34 flapper?
 
It looks like a 31 to me, but I can't be sure. Maybe someone with a 34 can take a look at theirs and chime in. Actually, the 31's hold higher boost better than the 34's so you can use that as a selling point for someone who really wants to rip on this thing and turn it up if it does have a 31. Those cracks around the flapper might hinder how much it can hold, but that's pretty common on these turbos.
 
It looks like the bigger 34mm wastegate flapper but it's not clipped.
