I need your guys' input on my car. I recently got my clutch replaced in my 96' GST about a week ago, and I had about a 150 or so miles on it when tonight I was installing my new intercooler and I went to start the car, and it started and made a grinding noise which seemed to origninate from the transmission. I turned off the car immediately and it grinded again right before the ignition turned off. Once this happened I noticed that my shifter appeared to be in third gear. I tried wiggling the shifter out of third, but its locked in this position. The car runs fine, but makes a sound similar to grinding gears when you start or turn it off. We also tried rolling the vehicle in hopes to get it back into Neutral position with no luck.

Does anyone have an idea what the possible issue could be? I trust you guys way more than any shop near to where I live, so any ideas would help alot. If there is any other information you might need I'll provide it. I already got advice from another person that said the linkage for my car is right underneath where one of my IC pipes is, but I don't recall bumping anything or moving anything near where my transmission is...

Thank you!

Check your linkages first. Other than that, it may be a broken selector fork(at least I think that's what they're called) inside the trans.

So the linkage possibly? Obviously the selector fork is a big deal to take the tranny out but if its in the linkage is that something that can be easily fixed?

Does anyone else have any idea if either of those could be problem and/or maybe something else?
