delete EGR Valve or New Fuel Pressure Solenoid?

Hey guys im trying to figure out if i should keep the EGR valve or delete it? Last weekend i had to use my 96' GST for work and driving 170miles out of town for the week i only used a little over a quarter of a thank of gas. Coming back home for the weekend the car consumed way more gasoline than normal. I noticed at 70miles out my gas needle was literally dropping like a clock. I stopped by the gas station around 90miles out and my tank gauge was close to being half way. I made it back home with the gas consumption more normal at a quarter tank. I always had the EGR valve check engine light on. Im debating if i shoult go ahead and delete the EGV system and plug up the hoses or just order a new Fuel Pressure Solenoid off ebay?
