So today I replaced my autometer boost gauge with a new DEFI-D boost gauge and the results are amazing. First of all the D series of DEFI gauges does not require the main sending unit like the average DEFI gauge, these gauges just hook up on their own.
As for the performance of the gauges, my autometer used to read 15inHg at idle, 14psi full boost and max vacuum while decelerating of about 19inHg. As you may have just thought to your self, I also thought I had major vacuum leek someware(turns out i did not)... after the new DEFI went in I now get 18inHg at idle, 11psi max boost and 23inHg max vacuum under deceleration.
I can conclude from this swap that the auotmeter is CRAP and the DEFI-D is pure QUALITY. I would recommend this gauge to anyone who doesnt have one. At a price only $60 more than a comparable autometer, the DEFI is a no brainier. ($52 for the autometer, 112 for the DEFI)
*note. both gauges tested were of mechanical operation
While swapping gauges, I also swapped gauge locations. From the a-pillar to the center vent the gauges went. Much like the gauge deal, this swap also concluded amazing results. I went from a crappy autometer dual a-pillar pod that didnt even fit (causing a 1/2in gap from the pillar to the pod as they are made for American models w/ auto seat belts, I have a Canadian model w/o auto seat belts), to a triple gauge center vent that looks awesome, fits perfect and is held in place by screws not hope and dreams like the a-pillar pod.
-Again I am concluding the DEFI-D boost gauge performs flawlessly and the center vent gauge mount is the s&*t as far as gauge mounting solutions go.
-Lessons learned: dont buy crap under excitement of modding your DSM, save a little longer to get the parts that you really want.
-apparently the DEFI-D boost gauge is "out of print" you may have to look around to find one for sale.
