i currently have a 93 eclipse 4g63 n/t 165k on the engine, tranny and car. I am debating on doing a turbo swap. i cant see swapping it being too hard or too expensive,or am i wrong? can anyone give me good places to go for a good full swap where i wont get rapped on the pricing for the engine? i would like to have the satisfaction of doing the work myself...

It's definitely going to be a pain... I do know the turbo versions come with different pistons, manifold and downpipe... You will most likely need to change out the ecu and mass airflow sensor. I'm sure there are other parts, and sensors that will probably need changed, personally I'd recommend a full rebuild because of the damage that can be caused by adding so much stress to an engine that never had it in 18+ years.

Your best bets are going to be junkyards / building your own engine.

Your going to want to change the ecu, wiring harness, engine, tranmission, axles. The n/t tranny has smaller axles. Neither is going to play nice with the power a turbo engine will put to the ground.

The turbo ecu also requires the knock sensor. Non-turbo doesnt have that.

Read through this tech article first, it should answer most of your questions and make you more familiar with what is involved in the swap. If you have specific questions after reading it I will be happy to help. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/48231-installing-turbo-4g63-into-nt-4g63.html

The n/t tranny has smaller axles.

The N/T transmission (FM522 [Manual] or F4A22 [Auto]) is weaker then the turbo transmission (F5M33 or F4A33) but the axles are the same. This is the second time I have seen you post about the 4G63 N/T having smaller axles and it is not true. Please don't make up facts.

I know this is a bit old, but if your looking for more info on a 1g GS - GST swap ChiTownHussla, the powertrain is rather straight forward swap but a few things that should of note :

GS (Non Turbo) Tranmission is different, and its not built for the extra torque/horsepower from a 4g63T
GS Axles are thinner. Again not meant for much torque
GS Ecu is different.
GS Wiring does not have a knock sensor.

The easiest way to got at this is to find a parts car with ecu + harness + tranny + axles, and of course a 4g63T

This is NOT true. The FWD axles vary based on the year and in some cases the transmission, but not turbo to non-turbo. All '90- Late '92 FWD axles are the same size and they have the same spline count as the AWD axles. From Late 1992-1999 the FWD's switched to a larger axle then the AWDs with a different spline count. This is the same for turbo and non-turbo 4G63's.

Also the non-turbo wiring harness is missing more then just the knock sensor wiring. It is also missing the 7th wire for the MAS, the wiring for the wastegate solenoid, and the wiring for the injector resister pack.

The turbo tranny is a straight swap as long as you stick with a 1g tranny. And I read somewhere you don't need the 7 wire from the MAS if you're not swapping the Gaige cluster ### the 7th wire is for the stock boost gauge. Instead of wasting money on the turbo MAS just buy a boost gauge like ya should anyways.
I'm actually in the process of doing this swap because my timing belt went and annihilated my 7 bolt. It's not terribly hard with what I've done so far but it could get difficult.

i am also considering rebuilding my bottom end but buying a 7bolt top end and creating a "Frankenstein motor"
