I'm looking to buy a pocketlogger Palm VIIx (Hand-held) I'm a newb to this so my question is, it comes new as a kit and it comes with everything...is it universal?...can you use it for a 1g and 2g's? also do you guys recommend the Palm VIIx?

You are buying a kit with the Palm, OBD2 cable, and software?
(I assume this is for your 97)

The 1G and 2G connectors are different and they use a different protocol, they are not compatible.

All the Palms are basically the same, having one with a color screen is nice. The newer Palms use a USB connector and won't work with the OBD cable.

What software does your kit come with?
Pocketlogger is nice, but pricey.
If you are getting a kit off ebay that comes with Palm'N'Stein, I'd get another one, Palm'N'Stein barely works with the 2Gs.

The 2Gs use OBD2 for logging, be aware that you will not be able to log Knock, or Injector Duty Cycle with OBD2. Both are important.

EvoScan is a PC logger that uses the Mitsu Factory Protocol. Its the only logger for 2Gs that can log Knock and Injector Duty Cycle. But it is for PCs not Palms.

Ok here's a few pictures of the pocketlogger i'm looking on getting. Will this item work with my car and how is the rating on this? Dont i still need the software CD?

That PDA is compatible with the pocketlogger software. I recently bought their pocketlogger software and it's the best investment I've made for my car. A datalogger is a very good tool to have when you are modding your car. You have to have the PDA, datalogging software, a hotsync cable, and a serial (DB9) connection on the rear of your computer OR a usb - to - serial adapter. You need that connection to sync your PDA with your computer. Use the link RallyEclipse98 posted. All the info you need is on that site.

It looks a tad expensive to me (nothing much though), piecing together your own kit would be cheaper. I wish you would have been in the market for one earlier, I would have sold you one for a little cheaper. Best of luck. I have had that palm in the past and has worked great. I never used it for logging though, but for everyday things so it should hold up.

i was checking out ebay and came up with this

It doesn't say what software it comes with. Which usually means it comes with crappy software.

If you are going to spend that much, I would get PocketLogger. Its proven to work.

I agree with Ceddy with regards to the PocketLogger software. Also, I don't see a serial hotsync cable in the ebay auction which means you're going to have to use the cradle when logging. I did that for about 10 minutes before I got pissed off and bought the correct cable. The freakin' Palm kept falling out of the cradle.

Ok i wont take chances and get a logger from someone, specially from ebay or used. Do guys know of any websites that sells them with everything (for a 2G). I just want a Pocketlogger that i just plug-in and play. It's actually becoming a pain to get one from a reputable site or maybe i'm just not searching hard enough.

Spend the money and get the PocketLogger package from Digital Tuning. Then pick up a serial hotsync cable and a cheap Palm from ebay. Let me see what I can find for you.

Here you go:

This is the model Palm I use. It's an m130 and selling for about $15 right now, but that might change with the auction time. I like it because it has rechargable batteries and is color.

Here is another on that's buy it now for $40. Or you could go with a m105 if you don't mind changing batteries. I would go with the m130, because they do eat batteries when logging.

Then all you need is a serial hotsync cable and you're all set. The one I linked to is OEM Palm, but you can get them cheaper if you want to go aftermarket.

Thanks for the links Spyderturbo007 :thumb: But along with the links i got a few questions:coy: First... with the second link you posted, the one with the M130 going for $40 bucks buy now, All i need is the Hot sync cable and i'm all set? Does the hot sink cable plugs into the 2G cars, obd 2? Is it worth buying that M130 for $40 bucks? Dont I also need the software? And last...The pocketlogger from digital tuning...i dont see what it comes with...is it the one that costs $125? Sorry to bombar you with questions but when it comes to this subject...i'm a newb! :sosad:

Yep, a HotSync cable will complete the Palm part of the package.

No, the HotSync cable attaches the OBD-II interface cable. Basically it's Palm -> Serial HotSync cable -> OBD-II interface cable.

That's up to you. As long as it's compatible with the PocketLogger software, you'll be fine. What you want to spend is up to you. I think I was able to get my m130 for about $35 shipped, but I wasn't in a hurry since I was using my old m105 while I looked for something cheaper. I got the m105 for about $20 shipped, but it was eating batteries and I got sick of buying them all the time.

The software comes in the PocketLogger package. You'll get the software and the OBD-II interface cable for $125.

Also, what you guys think of this: NEW Palm M130 Color PDA Unit Handheld Pilot PC - eBay (item 130226098264 end time May-30-08 15:50:32 PDT) would it be a good buy?

Looks fine to me. It also comes with the AC adapter, which is a nice touch. If you don't have the AC adapter, you have to plug your Palm into your computer to charge. It's a nice addition if you don't leave your PC on all the time.
