i bought a pocket logger from a guy off of ebay, and it works fine on my 93 eclipse and my 94 eclipse, but on my 90 gsx it doesnt work to well, everything is relativly correct but all the parameters cut in and out and says random things sometimes like 255 knock and 255 timing advancement and 7000 rpm (at an idle) but only for a second then goes back to normal (cutting in and out) , my friend john (bmwisthekey on here) has a logger and i have the same program as him (dsmlogger) and the cable looks almost identical except mine goes straigh from my port to my logger, his has a serial connector in the middle , and his has an extra red wire coming from the cord that hooks to the fuse panel , but even with that unplugged it still works in my car, my question is , is there anything different in the cables ( i know there are ecu differences from 90 to 91+) i payed 45bux for this cable its a direct plug and play no spade connectors , is there anything i can do to easily fix it?

comments and suggestions are very well appreciated. thank you

I don't think that's correct, sbiggi. I had a logging problem with my 90. It only logged when I used a logger cable equipped with the extra power wire that goes to the fusebox. My cable worked fine on my 94. So change your cable... or upgrade to a 91+ ECU. This should fix your problem.

I have a pocketlogger cable, I have always used the addition red power wire.

My brothers 92 will not connect to the ecu unless that wire is plugged in.
I have 93 ecu in my car now and it needs that wire also.
When I had the 90 ecu in I know I used that wire.

I have the pocketlogger software on my 90 and i have no problems at all. I always leave the red wire plugged in. If you go to pocketloggers website there is no 90 cable/software and 91-94 cable/software. It's the same one for ALL 1g's. I think this may be more car specific than year.

Let it hereby be documented that:

Cables are available that do NOT have the red power wire.

These cables will NOT work on a 1990.

They WILL work on a 91+.

To log on a 1990, you need to get a cable with the power wire.

I don't think many people know this, because I just dealt with this problem.

Does somebody have a link or site that sales the 90 style plug. Lately I been havin a hard time tuning my care. I would have to take out as much as -25 on the safc to get the low trims to move close to 100%(even with the screw way down on maf). I could hear the car change tone but no change on logger

The cables www.pocketlogger.com sells have the power wire.

"It seems that some cables that have the Auto-On Circuit do not work with some car/PDA combinations. I have only had this problem with about 4 cables that i have sold, but wanted to make this clear to the buyers. The cables have worked on my PDA and car but don’t work for a select few. I think that this is due to leaky capacitors on the ECU board, which makes a weak signal on the diagnostic port. Removing the Auto-On circuit fixes the problem, so if Auto-On is not needed for your car (if you don’t have ABS or don’t plan to keep the cable plugged into the car all the time), then I can make a cable for you without the circuit. I am in the process of designing a new circuit. "

or its a 90 LOL.. above is what the seller had advertised, im guessing i need to get one without the "auto on" then i guess without the "auto on" it would come with a handy little red wire eh? LOL

so let this be documented! :thumb:

if you have a 1990 dsm and your ordering a pocket logger make sure it !!DOES NOT!! have auto on (and it has an extra power wire) dam im good :D

Getting back to the logger: Non-powered cable WILL work with 90s (that's a stone in your backyard there, Mahesh :D ) Done it and doing it. Problem with logger cutting out was attributed to faulty ECU caps (very early stage) in past two 90s I had to deal with, and in our shop car. (before it was a race car). I am assuming here, that possibility of bad contact on cable hookup isn't an issue here (a lot of times connector port on Palms sucks)

Hope this helps.

that sounds peachy but, my friends logger works great on my car , and he has a 90 , and his logger has the extra red wire ... the only thing that makes me want to believe you is that my ecu smells like ###in fish (leaky caps) dam why cant it smell like roses...

I suppose I can list many more things that will make you believe me, but I'm not here to look for believers.

ok so why does his work on not mine? because the ecu sinal isnt strong enough to run soley on auto on and it needs the power wire? (which john has)

i have a 90. i have run the standard 3 wire cable. the cable never comes out of the car and i have no problems reading anything. ive heard on 90's there is problem with one of the grounds which causes the cable not to work. i accidently cut one of my grounds on the diag terminal so i grounded right there to the firewall. never had a problem.

Like I said, my three wire cable works fine on the 90's and it always has. You guys have problems elsewhere.:nono: :dsm:

My 90 also works fine with the 3 wire cable. I have been using it for almost 2 years now.

Stone in my backyard eh? I just upgraded to a 1994 EPROM... through with this shitty ECU. (That was the source of the "hard start" problem in the white car I bought, BTW).
