I'm not a proven member yet but I think this belongs in the Tuning & Engine Management forum.

So I decided to tear apart my closet looking for my old M500, Cradle and Power Supply. I didn't remember if it was USB or Serial. Turns out I had a USB dock. I was sad deep down inside. But much to my despair I found a way to use my dock anyway. The dock tells the M500 that it is USB by shorting pins 7 & 8. By introducing a 7.5k Ohm resistance between them the M500 thinks it is a Serial dock. So installing a switch to reroute the short through a resistor would trick my Palm into logging data! Sweet. Now after a few hours of thinking I devised a way to connect my palm to my OBD I port. Using female headphone connectors. One located in the empty space below my aftermarket radio and the other right on the back of my Palm dock. I can tuck the circuitry in the dock and by the OBD I connector and keep everything clean. No need for a heavy Serial cable! A flick of the switch and you can upload data to your laptop or the PC in your garage. (Well, mine any how.)

Below is an image I put together that could help whoever else is trying this.

On the resistors below it is important that they are 1% tolerance but I believe you can use 5% (Gold band). Charging is not an issue for me as my Palm M500 stays powered for DAYS at a time but you be the judge on that. Alter whatever below to suit your needs.

Also do not plug or unplug the connector with the car running. Might short something

Good luck and feedback is appreciated!
