so i was just wondering if i need to get new piston rings since i am having my block hot tankd, resufaced, and honed, not bored. My piston rings look like there in great shape for 150,000 miles on them, but i dont know what im looking at to tell if they need to be replaced, im just trying to save a little money on my build by reusing my rings unless thats not a good idea......if i do need new rings do i just buy standard size? ant help would be great, thanx

Get new rings. It would be a BIG pain in the ass if you had low compression due to the piston rings having over 100k on them.

since you have it apart do it the right way and know that its done instead of having to worry about it.

Dont resuse them they wear on the cylinder wall and they have 150k, physically you could re-use them but not worth it. Do it right, not twice. You should just order some stock rings, check your ring grooves as well, to make sure your pistons are ok. Why was the engine at the shop was it knocking, all that $$ into it. The rings are cheap compared to labor.

no i do all my own work.....a balance shaft bearing fried so i tore the engine apart to have the block cleaned up.....it was running perfect but it had really bad vibration do to the rear b.shaft bearing ... i knew i was gonna have to get new rings, i just wanted someones opinion on reusing them when there was no compression problems ..... but u guys are right, its not worth the headach if i do end up with low compression....thanx
