so i did an oil change on my car on saturday, and there happens to be oil in the little uhh "valley" area where the spark plugs are. no oil inside the spark plug holes or on the wires, but theres some on the outside area. don't know how its doing it either. and if its any consolation my valve cover gasket is leaking as well. any help with where this oil is mysteriously coming from would be awesome...:thumb:

Sounds like You have a crack somewhere in the valve cover. Even the smallest, non noticable crack can cause oil to pool up there.

Yeah most likely its your Oil cap gasket leaking. Get another one from murrays/autozone and just add it to the existing one for the thickness. Or buy two new ones, they are cheap.

I can vouch for the oil cap. The seals go bad on them but you can buy a new cap super cheap and any autoparts store.

well i just bought a new oil cap a couple months ago. there seems to be no oil film around the base of the cap. i think it might just be a crack in the cover. is there any place they are prone to cracking at? im gonna have to check it out tonight i guess. :notgood:

I am looking for a replacement valve cover as we speak. I just opted not to JB Weld it. Start your car and stand over the motor(after you clean it out of course) and rev it up a little over and over. Mine took about 3-4 minutes before I could see where it was coming from. Mine is leaking from the center of the valve cover right near the #3 cylinder plug.

I over tightend the valve cover bolts inside the plug valley and cracked the cover around the one of the hole last summer. It was so minute it was hardly noticeable; but the oil that excaped onto the T-belt cover, hood, and wires was not! I didn't have an extra cover at the time so I bought 3min Jb-weld and it worked perfect. If it happens to be a crack, I suggest (if you decide to use jb-weld) to apply it while the engine is warm. It will liqufy the jb-weld which will allow for perfect sculpting with a small putty knife and tooth pick. It was so easy to do, and worked so quickly I applyed 3 layers in like 20 mins. Just make sure to clean that section as much as you can before applying it..
