Custom Intercooler Piping

Been searching and searching trying to decide on what I want to use for piping with my ets fmic. Can't see myself spending $400 on ets's piping kit and kinda wanted to fab one myself. So my question is what is everyone else using for custom piping stainless steel,mild steel,aluminum? Getting bov flanges? Making tb elbows, j-pipe....any info would be appreciated.

The cheapest and easiest to weld would be mild steel. You could get away with a stock 2g tb elbow. You could find a used j pipe for pretty cheap.

The last ETS kit I bought in '06 used mild steel fwiw.

Do this, (it's what i have anyone i do FMIC piping for do as it's the cheapest and best way to get a good aluminum setup that's custom)

Go to the ebay seller "just intercoolers" and look at their universal piping kits, (last i ordered they were 125 shipped) the pipe is a good wall thickness and good wuality bends along with decent couplers and T-bolts (i run em on mine in some places)

but the kits are sold ina few sets of different bends and such so you can map out yopur setup by pieces/cuts and coupler count on paper using imagination or a sketch and pick a just intercooolers kit that will have what you need (they always have more than you need if you weld some of it, and enough to do it without welding)

I've done at least 18 FMIC pipe sets in the last 2 years and this hyas been the source of piping on every single one and i've had every customer be very pleased with teh results (my friend Troy turned me onto them a few years back with a kit he brought over for me to weld up a set of custom pipes to his Mx3 with)

Although there's eough clamps, couplers and pieces to not need a weld it's best to always have the least amounf of couplers as possible to get the job done for reliability and clean looks, so you can put it together wuth some extra length on each pipe (only an inch or so) to where they but up in the couplers, then later on you can mark them and have them TIG'ed if you find some one to do the TIG work (i've had them mailed to me with 2 lines on each junction "A" and "B" for refference to orientation and welded and mailed them back to people on here a few times, the boxes can get a little big and odd shaped but they aluminum is so light that the cost still really isn't that bad when you use regular parcel post

I'm running a 16g.....what about the j-pipe? A custom one or buy a pre-made one?
