Nice, if I didn't already know better, I might think it was real carbon. Good job on laying the vinyl... :thumb:

Whoa, very nice! Mind linking to the vinyl you used?

Also, what kind of cleaning and prepping did you do to the running boards?

Thanks, you can find carbon fiber vinyl on ebay pretty cheap actually, but I used the stuff i ordered a few months back. I ordered a 100 foot roll from across seas, so I've been going crazy using this stuff. As far as cleaning it goes I first washed it down with dish soap and water and after it was dry I cleaned it with some rubbing alcohol. I bought 3D carbon fiber wrap by the way.

After some thought on how My sill turned out and looked on the car, I decided to go a different route on how I wanted to wrap the sill. I thought with the contrast of the cf vinyl to the blue/gray interior, it just didn't flow like I wanted to and I also wanted to round off the vinyl around the light. Well last night, I did just that and I am more than happy with the results.

Re-wrapped and cut.

Because I don't have any other CF in the car I think this looks so much better.:rocks: I couldn't be happier with it. I still need to trim and solder the wires and install the power supply. The last thing that I am going to do to the sill is spray it with an acrylic sealer. not only will it help keep the vinyl from peeling, but it should(I hope) give it a nice glossy look.

Looks good, definately flows a little better with the rounded edges IMO, keep up the good work. Just curious though how bright are these?

And King that 3d CF vinyl looks crazy.

They are not very bright/noticeable during the day. At night they will give a nice mild glow. The el panel its self is normally used as just the back light on lcd screens like in the old hand held games(football, baseball, fighting, etc.) or in RC remotes so it's not very bright. I didn't want a blinding light down on the sill, just something to give it a little pizzazz:thumb:. I have seen many people just wrap/paint their sills and I just wanted something different.

Ha, I even said that I was going to take your advice:D I think it turned out great. This time around the vinyl is nice and flat. I think the first time my main issue was the fact that I was using a heat gun and it was warming the vinyl faster than I could work with it. Last night I used a hair dryer instead which gave me more time to work with it. I really like the fact that instead of wrapping the entire sill with the vinyl, I gave it more of a "flow" with the rest of the car. When I get to do the rest of the interior, all I would have to do is tape off the CF vinyl and paint it to whatever I want.

I know just messing with ya. Although now you have me in a tight spot...because I still haven't had the chance to do mine yet :( All the parts are staring at me from the work table. Well thanks to you I definitely know it's worth a shot. It does indeed look the way I'd want it to. I may try to keep the tan color though so it may make things a bit harder to do. Either way thanks for the kick in the bum, I'll be starting on this myself shortly, I hope :p

LOL I still have to do the passenger side so don't feel bad. I had other projects to work on. I get to work on the passenger side for the winter and in Feb I will be posting a new project. Just a hint, it deals with 600+ LEDS.

Are you planning on making LED tail lights? That would be awesome.
Or something like what BMW did to make an invisible van :) Seriously though, don't make your car invisible. That's a wreck waiting to happen.

Or something like this :)

The link didn't work, but I will be doing charger inspired tail light yes :rocks::hellyeah: It's going to be a lot of work but well worth it. I already have a center piece open and sanded for the light to shine through. I have made a list of the supplies, wiring diagrams, and started ordering parts here and there. Once I get all the parts in, I will start assembling the tails.:thumb:

I had posted in Feb on http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?50728-97-Eclipse-LED-Tail-Light-Conversion for my design, but I have changed it a lot sense then. I haven't updated my post on HIDPLANET in forever.

Is it going to be more than just tail lights? There is a video somewhere on youtube of a 2G LED tail lights that are like a billboard almost, light up in different patterns and whatnot.

yeah that was AZDAVES eclipse. For the most part its just going tho be the tail lights. I am going to be dividing the sections into 3 for a total of 9 led boards in the tail lights. My father-in-law is going to school for electronics so once he gets into micro controllers, Ill have him program one for me to have sequential tails on the sides. No strobe or chasing though. I don't need all of that. However, I will also be working on a board for the head lights and tail lights for whenever I turn off the lights, they will sit there and "breathe" like the apple computers :thumb:

If you only got nine sections then something like an Arduino microcontroller should work just fine. They can be had for about $60 and are quite easy to program. Don't know how reliable they are though. That brings up another question: are you going to have a simple flasher in there so you can at least have normal turn signals in case the electronics fail? Could have the flasher wired to a manual bypass switch that switches between it and the electronic controller.

Yeah it will still have a flasher for the fronts. I will be building a cooled control panel for all of the electronics in the rear of the car so if I do have issues, I could do a fix as simple as changing a bulb. I will be using quick connecters for most of everything (including bulb bases to connect to the stock sockets) so it will be easy to work on and add electronics if needed.

It was brought to my attention that people couldn't see the pic in the link for hidplanet(I forgot that you have to be a member to see pics) so I'll just post them here.

This is what I am going for.

This was the original design but this has changed.

The arrays are going to be build differently so they are not going to look like that (diagram2 in 2nd pic)inside the lights. I will be doing a new thread specifically for the tail lights for anyone interested.

I like the creativity of this and abstract thinking it took to make this.

Thank you. They have welcome sills on newer cars and I just thought that our older cars could use a little bit of a style upgrade. I'm working on the passenger side this week in hopes to get it wrapped and then I can run all the wires and power supply.

So it's going to be just an outline that lights up, or will it be a complete light with tint in the center for designs? Either way should look very nice when finished.

For the tail lights, on the inside of the lenses, its going to have leds going around just like I posted but the arrays are going to be built differently. Once built and put back together, I will tape off the outer rim and the designs and then spray plasti-dip over the lens so that way only the rim, the symbols, and the lettering will light up.:thumb:

But this will all be explained again when I start the thread for the lights. If anybody has any questions regarding the tail lights, Feel free to PM me and I do my best to explain until the tail light thread is started.
