Creaking lower ball joint

I stopped at the Mitsu dealer and asked about the recall on the lat arm ball joint. The ran my Vin # and said that there are no recalls on my car.Are they just shittin me, or what?96 GS

I had the same issue with the dealer. I ended up just making a tiny hole in my ball joint boot and sraying a lot of PB Blaster in there and the noise went away.

Either lazy or their pants are on fire.

Funny that they wouldn't want to do it. Its quick easy money for them.

It should be listed under their safety recall program (because, um, its not safe :p)

Definitely a bandaid fix - I would replace the arm, as PB Blaster only washes existing grease away, and is not rated for the kind of duty a lower ball joint sees.

Whether or not they are going to fix it, it is damaged if it is making noise and needs to be replaced. IF you don't replace it than you will likely wreck your car when it separates. You can get the arm on rockauto for 40 or less.

Well, it made that noise like a year ago.I also made a little hole in the boot and used pb blaster! The noise went away up untill the other day.I jacked it up and pryed around with a bar and she seems tight like a virgin yet.so maybe if I lubed her up alittle it wouldnt hurt. The dealer took my Vin# and ran it in the computer, and said that there was no recalls on my car.Thats basicaly all they said.I should make a printout of recall from my computer and go back and show them!

Well its not going to last forever.

Only poorly fitted arms were replaced..mine were replaced, then a few years later, one of em had play,so i bought two new arms..didnt get oem ones, costed less than $100

Yeah, arms aren't that expensive, and they're pretty easy to replace. It's the only proper solution. Take it from someone who's had lower balljoint failure, it sucks.

Saying there are no recalls does not imply there are none listed, only that there is nothing outstanding.

You can buy a small needle as and attachment for a standard gease gun and is a very good tool to keep non-greaseable joints well lubed. Give them a squirt every oil change and chances are you wont have any failure issues in the life of the car, That is if the boots are in good condition. Also as stated before PB blaster is not a good solution for this and will only dry up it does not have enough weight to withstand the pounding impacts that ball joints endure.

Im a service advisor for Mitsubishi and would love to "show" you that there arent any current recalls on your car. Let's see if you call and apologize to the advisor that you're bashing afterwards. There is no reason for a service advisor to tell you that you dont have any recalls if there is one. We get paid to perform warranty repairs too. Whats your vin#?

Of course you bought one from Autozone. That shows zero integrity and loyalty to your local dealership. At least until you need something that you or any other backyard garage mechanic cant figure out.

PS: this post was directed at the thread, not the OP.

Hmm, a well known problem that has been replaced as a safety recall literally thousands of times (some as many as three times on the same vehicle - though I would consider that an error on the dealerships part) on various different year vehicles.

I just pulled this up on a quick google; Lemon Law Related Resources:: Vehicle Recalls and I'll use that a reference because I don't really want to search around for more.

Now could it be that the recall has already been done on his vehicle and they didn't tell him that? I imagine so.

As for your last comment, LOL. I have PLENTY of stories (as well as many others on here) about the incompetence of the mechanics at dealerships. Dealership integrity? Lol, I'm leaving all that alone or this will become a bashing thread.

I've been driving for 30 years, and never had good service from a dealership(Accept for a service girl that serviced me one weekend:sneaky:)I would NEVER buy a part from the dealership Unless it was a last resort! As far as supporting the dealership, They can suck my BALL joint!

Yeah, well some of us don't even have a local steelership to support. The closest to me is two hours away in Memphis. No way in hell am I going to drive that far too get raped. Rock auto however has ball joints for as little as $20 :D

Some people expect their parts to last forever..

Ball joints creaking after 14 years!OMG lets sue the manufactrer, their products(which we dont look after, just drive it till it breaks down, not following the manufacturers recommendations on service intervall-not just oil changes-,) treid to kill us!!

-Thats another reason why many manufactrers dont make every option or model available to the US market.

Well, this is not a serviceable item.

I don't see the OP looking to sue anybody.

The recall option was left open by Mitsubishi themselves, so if you have a problem with them replacing these 14 years (I'll use your number) later, then I suggest you take that up with them. If I was them I would have implemented a cap for the recall (time or mileage). But they didn't (for whatever reason).

And to connect this problem up to US availability of product is ludicrous. That's like saying that they would build an unsafe car and only sell it overseas. If that's the case, then I'm happy they don't sell those unsafe models here. You can have all the fun of a vehicle built with an unsafe situation.

I never said any thing about a lawsuit.I was pissed because I new there was a balljoint recall for awile now.567,000 cars were involved with this recall. There is also 10 other recalls on the 96 eclipse gs.All you have to do is Google 1996 eclipse recalls and you can see for yourself.I was pissed because the dealer told me that there was NO recalls on 1996 gs.Then they wanted to charge me $146 for a part that I could get for $50.They will get no support from me!:nono:The only dealer Im willing to pay high prices is the Merc dealer. And thats because I have no choice:cry:
