Good Morning,
Okay, so I have the dreaded "Lifter-Tick" that's so talked about. Recently my car was in the body shop for appox. 6 weeks (Took a while to get the parts over here to Italy :toobad: ) After I got it back the tick was gone for the first week or so and now it's back with a vengeance.
So my question('s), is it for sure a "Crank-Walk" issue since it was gone for a week and now since I am back to everyday driving it's out of whack again??. That was a nice week of tick-free start-up and idling, why did it stop for a week?? Did the six week siesta have something to do with it?. Or does this mean it's a lifter/valve issue because so to say, Once your crank takes a walk it ain't coming back ??? Or possibly the small oil-passage issue ???, but why would it just stop for a week???
Any ideas appreciated.... I'm stumped WTF WTF

take a deep breath.... its going to be ok. since your ticking isnt an ongoing issue, try some synthetic oil, or if thats what you are using, try some regular castrol.

if you think you have crank walk, do a hard left turn and see if the clutch floors itself, or see how hard it is to get into gear, do the rpms plummit when you press in the clutch... i dont know much about the N/T's but i think your ok man :thumb:

Lifter tick comes and goes as it please's. Change to a different oil or try running Sea Foam through it. Other than that the only fool proof thing is to buy revised 3g lifters. Or just live with it like the rest of us do.

Is your profile accurate? Crankwalk isn't any more of a problem for nt's than it is for any other car, which is to say, highly unlikely...

"Is your profile correct"

Yup, 99 Eclipse Spyder N/T, currently stationed in Sigonella Italy, have orders to the MEPS station in Syracuse, NY. I can't wait to get back to the states !!!!!! :rocks: :rocks: It's been three long years over here.....

I am very familiar with the lifter tick issue, I've owned Eclipse's since 94, I've had a 94, a 97 and the 99 Spyder. This 4G64 motor has it the worst though, not only during start-up but for the better part of all friggin day !!!!!!
I just went out and spent 60 Euro ($85 USD) on five quarts of Mobile 1 (10-50 WT) Euro Rally formula and it just made it worse. Oil & Gas are soooooo damn expensive over here. So that was a nice little waste of money to say the least......
Basically what I was wondering in my original question was why it was gone for the first week out of the body shop ??? (No motor work was done, just body) Then a week later it sounds like crap again, not just a little tick, I mean it's a nice LOUD tick, smack, smack, smack, smack.... What changed over that week's time-frame to bring it back WTF WTF

EDIT: I done some searching and I'm thinking about trying the "Tranny Fluid through the vacuum hose trick" Has anyone had success trying that, looks fairly easy but dangerous ? This is my only car over here and I don't have the option of running down to Auto Zone or Shucks if I frick it up.......
